I am not versed on Rudhyar but perhaps this builts upon the idea that every next house builds upon the prior. Every house has a prior house (12th from it) and a resulting house (2nd from it.) Normally you see the next house referred to as “gains” of the prior house. The 12th house from a house is either the loss or underlying inspiration of it.

Every time we move forward a house we are gaining and building forward. The 1st house is you, then in the 2nd, we build our survival. From the 12th to the 1st, we gain a broad perspective and start to find out what might inspire us to take action in the first. The 12th, 1st, and 2nd house dynamic is the easier way to see how it all works.

It’s not Dane Rudhyar’s original concept, it’s the age-old pattern. And contemplating the differing natures of each House as it segues into the next is something worthy of devoting lots of time to, imo.

It helps understand the structure of human. It is profound.

Rudhyar’s book The Lunation Cycle is a good read to understand how he interprets events in a chart as part of a continuing cycle. He understood that planets transit through the houses on a monthly (Moon), yearly (Sun, Venus, Mercury), every two years (Mars), etc. basis so he wasn’t saying that the Houses literally indicate a part of a full life cycle. He just means to give deeper understanding to the Houses as part of a cycle by making them analogous to an archetypal human life span. They are not equal in time so that the 1st through the 3rd are just the first 5 years or so whereas the 10th through 12th can be the last 30 or 40 years of a person’s life. They’re not meant to indicate an actual event in someone’s life.

I read in a book that the Houses are direct in the sign order. So I interpret each house area as their house ruler and base it off of those general personality/archetypes of the signs.
