I have been feeling very drawn to Mushrooms lately. How can I use wild mushrooms in spellwork?

Title says it all. Any tips on how to use mushrooms, or what their magickal properties are?

You’ll need a book or a mushroom ID app, preferably both, because you will need to cross-reference to make sure a mushroom ID is correct. A local guideperson would also be excellent if you can find one, sometimes state parks and such will have tours. Don’t pick anything unless you can get at least two sources to agree on what it is. You can also ask the mushroom Reddit as another source.

Once you are absolutely certain that you have a correctly ID’d mushroom and it isn’t poisonous, read about it in order to figure out what to do with it. Edible mushrooms will tend to have preferred preparation methods that you’ll find recipes for. Inedible but nontoxic or low-toxicity mushrooms might still be used for magical purposes, but obviously do not ingest them or get them anywhere near your nose, eyes, or mouth.

The magical potential of any plant, mushroom, rock, or mineral can be ascertained by looking at it and reading about it. Take into account its color, location, preferred growing conditions, and any folklore you can find. As an example, let’s use the common, well-known mushroom “chicken-of-the-woods”. It is edible, and is said to have the most chicken-like taste and texture of the mushrooms, and it is considered a gift to find one. It is usually colored in warm shades of gold and orange. And it is found growing on the sides of trees. From this we might deduce that it good for things where prosperity, happiness, and achievement are desired – because of its color, the fact that it is often found above the forest floor (achievement), and that it is considered a gift to find. This is my interpretation, but whatever interpretation makes the most sense to you will be the right one to use. It’s your magic after all.

Again, just use caution when dealing with mushrooms. It cannot be overstated. Like I said, always get two sources that can agree on what it is before picking it.

………so I’m just going to say this and I’m not a expert in witchcraft but please don’t touch wild mushrooms they can be highly poisonous and some of them disguise themselves as edible mushrooms. Some of them are so toxic that even just touching them and the accidentally brushing your hand against your mouth and then liking your lips can cause horrendous stomach pain
