Ideas for a spell/cleansing ritual for a used wedding dress?

My best friend’s mom is getting married and she bought her dress second hand. She doesn’t know the backstory of dress (whether the original owner got divorced, died, ect.), so she doesn’t want to risk any bad energy connected to the dress. I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas of how to cleanse the dress. I was thinking of burning some frankincense, dried apple slices, and maybe some rose petals for a smoke cleanse before she washes it. She might also get the dress altered, so maybe she can sew something into the dress, like a small herb pouch, or a crystal.

Any ideas?
