Forums Forums Astrology I’m confused as to what planets and placements indicate fertility or infertility.

I’ve heard a number of contradicting things when it comes to fertility. For example, I heard that having the moon in the 5th indicates fertility and then I heard it actually indicates the opposite. So now I’m curious, what do your studies tell you about fertility or the lack there of?

I was infertile because of medical malpractice, and an astrologer friend once told me that it was due to my retrograde Jupiter in the 5th house. Is that true? I guess it makes a certain amount of sense.

A quick note regarding house placements: Many (most?) people on this subreddit seem to be very fond of either Whole Sign or Equal House house systems. FWIW, my Jupiter is in the 5th using Placidus, Koch, and Regiomontanus (the only house systems I generally use); it’s in the 6th using Whole Sign and Equal House.

How about Pluto in the 5th?

My husband has moon in Gemini in the 5th, and my 5th house is in Aquarius. We never tried having biological kids (I’m not infertile to my knowledge, but I do have a hereditary genetic condition that would make pregnancy & post-pregnancy very difficult for me). We ended up doing open adoption to build our family. Our son was born right after Saturn entered Aquarius and began transiting my 5th house.

Saturn in the 5th, apparently, which I have. And have been dealing with infertility for 6 years, so…

    This is the traditional understanding:

Planets that promote children – Venus, Moon, Mercury, ruler of the 5th, Jupiter

Planets that deny children – Saturn, Mars, Sun

Fertile signs – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Sterile signs – Gemini, Leo, Virgo

Signs of few children – Aries, Taurus, Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius

The condition of the planet matters. Planets in domicile or exaltation can produce. Planets in detriment or fall can’t. Moon represents motherhood, not fertility. Jupiter is the universal ruler of fertility.

Well ill chip in my experience- very fertile here and have Venus in cancer 11th heavily aspected. Mars in Aries 8th.
My moon is actually in 12th house (along with sun and Mercury) so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven’t worked much with fertility/infertility in chart readings and haven’t researched it very well, but the general idea (as I understand it) is that mostly well aspected benefics, in fertile signs, in houses 5, 10, 11, and perhaps 7 and 4 are good markers for fertility, whereas malefics, especially in infertile signs, in those same houses can indicate infertility, problems conceiving, or otherwise carrying to full term.

The reasoning I’ve heard regarding the 11th and 10th houses is that the 11th is the place of hopes, wishes, and dreams, so if someone is hoping for children or a family, the potential for that happening can be seen there. The 10th is often regarded as the best or most powerful place in a chart and placements there often indicate material, real world actions and consequences (in a positive sense, like a real live baby should there be fertile placements).

Transits, progressions, and solar returns are also important to consider.

I have Saturn in 5H, my first child came later in life, I was 36. Prior to my 30s, I never thought much about kids because I knew they would come when I was “ready.” I’ve also had 2 miscarriages and 1 twin pregnancy where one baby stopped growing (technically 3rd miscarriage I suppose.) All of this is subjective but I felt the need to share my placements and personal experience. I do desire 1 more child if it’s in the cards for me, it will happen.

I’m infertile. I’m still learning the houses and whatnot. I could share my birth chart with you if that helps? My logic is you may or may not be able to find such an indicator? I’m not sure.

For your example, it depends on what’s actually going on in the 5th more broadly, not just the planets. What sign rules the 5th cusp? Is it a fertile sign? What’s happening to its dispositor? What planets are in the 5th? What close aspects are made to the planets in the 5th and the Lord of the 5th house? There can be a lot going on.

So yeah, there might be high fertility if the 5th cusp is in Cancer and the Moon is in the 5th (motherhood planet in house of children in fertile sign she rules), but if there’s a lot of barren sign energy having an impact, the Moon in the 5th will have a negligible positive impact.

If the moon is poorly aspected ith 5th (especially with Saturn or even some 6th house placements) then that could definitely mean infertility. But if it’s positively aspected I definitely think that a 5th house moon would mean fertility.

    5th house, 5th lord

    To a degree 7th house, 7th lord

    Jupiter

Feminine signs are better than masculine

Dignity of a planet is important

Saturn creates delays or problems with fertility when associated with any of these

Venus, Moon, Jupiter associated with the lords will indicate increased fertility

Those are some basics to look at imo

Gemini moon in 5H and I have PCOS… always thought it was strange to have a ‘fertile’ moon placement with my condition then again it doesn’t mean I’m infertile but probably will struggle to conceive? V confusing
