I can only reference from memory the things I would see on TV growing up both fiction and re-enactments . The medium would talk to a spirit who say, for example, felt guilty or was stuck in some sort of loop within their death and basically counsel them.
If I am using my discernment corrently along with everything else, I have someone who has been making herself known with the sound of dropping beads. Dropping them. She was in a halfway house with me and she passed sometime last year. I am not FEELING that I can guide her to light. It’s LOOKING to me like she is stuck in her in-between state of ODing. Like she reached out for my help before she officially passed and got stuck?
Any offering up of confirming or suggesting something regarding what I’m sensing is welcome, but there’s some kind of block on my sacral chakra and a specific moment in that house that I keep being shown.

Is it a thing to counsel deceased and help them heal before crossing?

Yes. It is a thing. Psychopomps work to help souls who are stuck, or in transit, or who did not cross to do so. That requires working through the issues of that soul, enough for them to go willingly.

Although you are not obligated to help her, you may want to be open to the opportunity being as much about you as it is about her. You may receive good energy back and progress on your own path. Let spirit guides know of your intentions.
I don’t know how well you knew her. I have guided a couple loved ones and I’m not a medium. I wouldn’t jump to guiding her to the light specifically. You could try lighting a candle for her, set it by a picture of her, and just talk to her a bit each day. Let her know that she has passed but also remind her of good things about her and good memories if you can. Raise vibration. It may only be a matter of waking her a bit before someone else on the other side says “I’ll take it from here.” You may receive successful confirmation of your efforts in your dreams and waking life.

You could also tell her to go to someone who can help her, if you feel you are not able to do it. We can be too close to the person who is stuck, to feel comfortable. There is nothing wrong with that.
You can tell her that you will try, and do your best to talk her over. She did come to you. You are the person she reached out to, in this. Whether it works or it does not, all you can do is your best.

I think so. But I don’t have a lot of experience with this. I have definitely challenged spirits I was angry with for their actions in this life and I know they felt guilt. Honestly though if you can reach someone before they die the process is much easier. It is preferable to release someone before they pass so they have fewer problems crossing. I helped release my grandmother. Basically the last time I really spoke to her I told her it was OK to go. My grandfather didn’t cross just because he was waiting for her. They crossed together.
