Yes. Basically our subconscious is completely open when we sleep. It’s our most vulnerable spiritual state because of that. It’s easy for spirits to make contact with us then. Typically, they just come to visit or to pass on messages.

Spirits of living people can also visit us in our dreams.

Absolutely, I’ve had my own mystical experiences and visitations within the dream state, as well as the dream state being like a door to other experiences. I’ve found that there’s an openness that occurs when we sleep, a quieting of the mind that allows for clearer communication and spiritual experiences which are natural!!!! to occur without our thoughts interfering.

My mother, father and brother visit me all the time in dreams. Generally they’re there to comfort me when I’m having a hard time. The only time my mother spoke to me was just after she died. In my dream we were at a wedding and she was in the bar with her 85 year old boyfriend. (They met after my dad died and had many good years dancing and socializing.) Anyway, I came upon her when I went to the bar to get a drink. She was in a lavender gown and surrounded by sparkling stars. We hugged and she was so happy. She turned to walk through a door in the other side of the bar. I asked her to stay and she said she had to go. I asked her if I could come and she said not yet. I’ve had similar dreams about my brother and father. They were all happy and peaceful. In each case, I spoke to them in the first dream after they died. Since then whenever I dream of them, they are a loving calming presence.

For sure! My father in law visits my husband all the time. He passed in 2013. My husband wakes up and vividly remembers the conversations.

Interesting point on the spirits no talking comment.
-my grandmother died and we had super close connection. I took death hard to where I vomited and became super sick on day of burial. The night, I dreamt her in a vivid dream where all she did was smile this happy warm smile, and she exuded so much love and warmth and happiness. When she left, glitter sparkled into a ray of sunshine where she was seated (dream took place in a restaurant- my father was the only one who would take her out) she never spoke but I understood. I was six. In my early 20s, I was a victim of a violent crime, and she appeared again, flying above me, while it took place, with wings, showing me I would be ok- she made me focus on her, While she protected me (mentally? Physically? Not sure- maybe both) After two weeks of counseling and meds (which I got off of) and tons of praying and crying and coming to terms with experience I was fine.
Husbands grandmother died- from a stroke, she was alone when it happened. She was his mother figure; she appeared to me in a dream and talked to me- slow and deliberate, told me what she needed to say, warned me about my mother in law and to please stay by my husbands side- it would be bumpy but her and husband would be watching- told me to answer landline phone in dream- it would take me back to the “real world” where I was asleep, and that I had to answer in the dream. The dream would lead to me waking up in the “real world” and I had to answer in the real life. She said I HAD to answer in real life. She said it was matter of life or death. DONT IGNORE IT!, PLEASE! She repeated this over and over like two or three more times… Phone rang and I looked at it (our landline was in hallway In dining room- this was 2002)and she said answer it! And walked out of my house. I answered it in my dream, which woke me up and phone in hallway was actually ringing… I ran to the phone and answered it to only hear crackling on the other end; I said hello twice, and they hung up. Weird as this is, my husbands grandmother was still sick when I saw her; it was 24 hours after she died that she appeared to me; all the things that had been done feverishly to save her, were evident when I saw her rocking in my rocking chair while she talked to me, still attached to tubes and her head was shaved. Dream felt so real and so vivid. I hate to think what would have happened if I wouldn’t have woken up to answer the phone. She has visited me once since then, in my new house, saying that her and her husband have been looking over us and our children, along with my grandmother. I woke up crying. Needless to say, post and then reading the comments, got my attention!

Here is the way it was explained to me once. Spirit can visit you in your dreams but they can’t speak to you in the dream. So if you see them and they waive or just smile to you and you try to talk to them and they hold a conversation with you it is not them. It is your imagination.

When I think spirit I think family members/friends that have crossed over.

If you are saying spirit as in guides or other entities. I can speak to my spirit guides but I usually do that while astral projecting. I don’t usually see them in dreams.

Yes, but not because they “visit” (there’s no here or there when you don’t have a body) we just “tune up with” their being state or vibration or whatever you want to call it.

I think they can’t, but it’s possible during meditation, with astral projection
