Forums Forums Magic, Witchcraft and Healing Is it possible to cleanse candles to be reused for other spells?

I’ve read that you shouldn’t use a candle for more than one spell, but I’m at a difficult time in my life where my bank balance is legit zero. I still have a small stock of candles, but they are not going to last very long if I can’t “recycle” partially used candles for different spells. For example, I have a black candle I partially burned to banish someone from my dreams, but I’m most likely not going to have to do that kind of spell again, so that candle is just sitting uselessly in a box when I could be using it for a protection spell or something.

Is there any way to reset or cleanse a used candle so it can be used for other spells?

Yes, just cleanse them. There’s nothing wrong with reusing a candle. I’ve done it hundreds of times over the years.

Also, I don’t know where you’re getting your candles now, but thrift stores were my best friend for supplies when things were tight. So many places that I’ve been to will offer bulk bags for only a dollar or two.

I use birthday cake candles sometimes. If your not doing a long spell they work wonders for cost and come in multiple colors

Candles can be reused for all different forms of spells, providing you cleanse it between uses. Often we are told to get separate candles as a way for big businesses to make more money. It is honestly fine and won’t affect the magick to reuse the same candle for different purposes 🙂

Just commenting to add another tip: you can always chop up bigger candles in smaller pieces. I have quite a few coloured diner candles that are way too big to be used. I simply don’t have the time nor focus to wait hours on end for the candle to burn down. I simply chop them in three pieces, make sure the wick is useable, and put the candle in a holder like I would if it was a normal one.

I personally don’t like to reuse candles. I like to get the little chime chándales and burn them all the way out. Any left over wax, I save for later to make a candle with for Samhain.

When I use candles for simple spells, I’d recommend getting the small tea light candles. If you end up not burning them all the way through, at least you won’t feel bad about throwing away what’s left over.

When I use candles, I like to anoint them with herbs and oils. I feel like for this case, especially, I don’t recommend re using candles after this. I like to think that your intentions and manifestations for the spells your using them with sticks with the candle. When you re use a candle for a different spell using a candle that used used for another spell, I feel like some of that energy you put into the spell sticks to the candle and can taint future spells if you use the same candle.

That’s just my viewpoint and opinion though. Your craft can be whatever you want to make it, as well as whatever you want to believe in. The best advice I can give is do what works for you. If money is tight, I’d suggest cutting the smaller chime candles in half or even thirds so that you can use one candle more than once.

Buy coloured birthday candles…keep the nice scented/pillar ones for everyday usage and not spells.

Yes, you can cleanse the ones you already have. Use one or more of the elements to cleanse them.
