I’ve seen a lot of Etsy shops selling spells of divination, clairvoyance etc. and all they require is a name and date of birth. As I am a non-practioner, I’m curious are they legit?

I’ve never needed a DOB to get a decent read for other people and I’m not a professional reader so I recommend caution

They google you and look for social media or any articles about you to decide how to proceed with what they say.

From my name and DOB, a person could likely tell my ethnicity and some general things about me based on my generation and where most 50-somethings would be in life. You also get the buyer’s address when you sell on etsy. And then they could look up my social media as well. Easy to fake a reading based on all that info. Think about the scene in Wizard of Oz where she is in Professor Marvel’s wagon having her fortune read. If you have someone willing to believe and you give them just a tiny bit of info, they can infer a lot more, even if they are just a humbug.

Also could be a chance for a little identity theft, while they’re at it.

    I wouldn’t do it.

just as a good rule, you should be wary of literally anything that asks for your personal information.its a scam.

I like to get the first name of the person I’m working with, the rest I can do without. Names are more important to me in spell casting than divination, but that’s due to the way I write petitions. There are alternative ways if your client doesn’t know someone’s name or isn’t comfortable sharing.

Sounds like a scam. I’m not a professional or anything but I’ve given pretty decent reads to strangers in the bar whose name and age I did not know.

They want to look you up to get as much info on you as possible.

Doing this doesn’t mean someone isn’t legit, although there probably are fakes that do this just as there are equally fakes who don’t ask for these things.

I would ask for these things, first name only though is enough so no worries in the client ‘s part that I would be checking Facebook ,this is just to get abit more of a connection or link with their energy as divination is traditionally done with the client shuffling the cards, cutting the deck, picking runes or drinking the tea to let their energy be picked up by the tools and the reader, since the advent of long distance readings this now doesn’t happen.
I don’t believe you have to do this but I like to to help with connection.
