For example I’ve seen some people on Twitter say “If you have a 8th house placement then…” But I thought everyone have placements in all 12 houses or am I just misreading something

Everyone has all 12 houses in the chart with a sign on the cusp but not all of those houses will have a planet in them. There are 10 planets and twelve houses so a minimum of two houses will be empty in every single chart.

So when people say “if you have an 8th house placement” they mean having a planet in the 8th.

Everyone has empty houses. Not enough planets to go around (10 planets, 12 houses and signs). And often, several planets are in one sign at the time of birth. For example, anyone born today will have 3 planets in one sign, Scorpio (Sun, mercury, mars) and 3 planets in aquarius (moon, jupiter, saturn). That means 6 of 10 planets are in just two signs (and just two houses, when we use the Whole Sign house system). Then we have venus and pluto and they are both in capricorn. So, now we have 8 planets in only 3 signs. That leaves uranuns in taurus and neptune in pisces. So, this person’s chart has planets in 5 houses with 7 houses empty. This is completely normal.

Empty houses are not empty of meaning at all. We still look at them, analyze them via the planet that rules that house, where it is, what it’s up to. That house ruler planet takes care of that house, provides for it well, or not so well depending on its condition. And transits still travel through those empty houses throughout each year. And there are other tools that light up those houses.

Everyone has an 8th house, but not everyone has a planetary body in the 8th house, which is what it sounds like they’re referring to

Some people can have a void sign in their chart depending on the house system used where the sign doesn’t rule any house cusp and no planets occupy it but normally this is when the chart is intercepted and I don’t think it’s that common. And even then, the sign is still a part of the chart it just doesn’t touch a cusp and it’s empty. But everyone has all 12 houses that are ruled by something

They mean if you have a planet in that house, but you are right in the way that everyone has a sign ruling a house.

Yeah, I had the same initial confusion when I looked at my natal chart and realized I had empty 2 and 6-11 houses.

My planets just like hanging out together in 12, 1, and 3-5 apparently – still in the process of learning what that means, particularly the 3rd house stellium (3+ planets in one house).
