I’ve been told that keeping tarot cards in it original packaging can make them weak. I’m getting a box of (very very expensive) Arcana cards, based on the game, and while I want them to work for me and I plan on using and connecting with them often, I dont want to risk ruining them. I’ve been told to keep them wrapped in cloth or in a special box but I dont trust myself to be careful to be honest…

If I wrap the original box in cloth and keep it with my crystals, will that also keep it connected to me? I’m willing to keep them out of the original box if that’s bad for them but I also really want to keep them nice as long as possible. Thank you!

This sounds like something tarot cloth sellers say to sell more product…

“Weak” in what way? It surely won’t ruin the texture or finish of the cards unless you get the whole box wet or dirty.

If you’re talking more about the spiritual side of things, keeping the cards any way is your preference. If you feel that the cards will be better in something not the original box, then go for it. I don’t think there’s any evidence either way, and as with any ritual, it’s on you to decide what works and what doesn’t 🙂

I always imagine the box that my cards come in to be like the cards home. It’s a safe place to store the cards and keep them safe

It…doesn’t do anything to them. Two of my three decks are in their original boxes, and the third one isn’t only because the packaging it came in was very chinsy and fell apart. And one of the two in their original packaging will get its own case eventually because the original box is just too damn big.

I mean, at the end of the day, everyone has their different opinions, but I’d make sure whoever is telling you certain things isn’t somebody trying to sell you something. Or think about what your own beliefs are.

As with most things tarot, it really is up to your personal preference. However, I will say that packaging TYPE really determines for me whether I’m going to keep them in their original box or not.

Some of my more sturdy boxes like the ones that came with my Sasuraibito tarot or the Wild Unknown are a lot more protective, so I’m not too worried about banging up my cards inside.

If you expect this deck to become one of your main decks though, and it comes in a tuckbox or other cardboard situation, I would find a nice scarf or silky fabric that you can wrap around them. I have a few of my favorite decks all neatly wrapped up in furoshiki-style bundles. I’ve also seen a lot of people keep their decks in small little wooden boxes, and that seems like it would definitely protect your cards very well.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Some boxes will start to fall apart as you open them, take the cards out, put the cards back in, and close them. If I want to preserve those boxes, I take the deck, get a bag for it, and then open the empty box at both ends, flatten it (it should do that naturally with the corner folds) and file it away. As one commentor noted, some boxes are designed to be used for long-term storage and usage. Personally, I don’t believe keeping them in their original box has any effect on their energies or connetions.

This is nonsense. Cards are just a tool you are channeling the response. You can put the tarot cards anywhere you like. What a bogus way to sell you fancy stuff when it’s not needed.
