MaverickParticipantWhile there are cards that are never necessarily great to see (so man 2020 readings with The Tower in them), I was wondering if anyone else had a particular aversion to a card that is on a more personal level? A card with a meaning that just pokes at your insecurities?
For me, it’s The Moon. I hate getting it in a reading. I have thought a lot about why I’m uncomfortable with it and I think it comes down to the fact that I’m a Pisces and see the Moon as representing some of the dark aspects of the sign. And so I always feel a little too called out when it appears. So I was curious if there’s anyone else who has feelings like this about a particular card that other people might not see as negative.
Also, while this question came to me because of some recent posts of pretty Moon cards, this doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the pretty Moon cards. They are very lovely – it’s not their fault I don’t like getting them.

Is there a card you have a particular aversion to?

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmI get upset when I get queens and kings.only because they aren’t doing much and I’ve had enough bad readers that they try to say stuff like “you’ll meet a blond women” which I don’t find is helpful or true. So when I pull them, I try to find the real meaning but I feel like I’m not good at tarot because they are the 8 cards I really struggle with!
I can deal with death, betrayal, and my own failings but when I get one of them I’m thinking “am I dumb??”

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmThe Tower- It’s chaos, then a total leveling of something that no longer serves you, but you probably aren’t willing to part with at that exact time. Whenever I see that card, I’m like, “Ugh. No. No thanks. Let me try again.” I brace myself for all kinds of major upheaval and loss. I do see the other side of the card- but it’s all that ruthless Mars energy that just burns through anything in its path that is so miserable.
The 10 of Swords too. I know that readers are generally encouraged to recognize the silver lining to every card, but I would be fine if I never saw this card appear in a reading again. The 10 of Swords is like the “rock bottom” card. The lowest low. Which can be a relief, because it’s the end of a tremendously fearful and anxiety producing quality of time, but….oh…..I could do without it.
Those two cards are just….eh. Bleh. Bye.

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmNine and ten of swords 😮
I know I should work through my issues with these cards, but I really have a hard time with them. Any advice?
The tower feels violent and scary, but necessary, so I can accept it. I can see why people are freaked out about it, but I personally don’t have such a bad reaction to it.

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmI feel like it depends on the context personally and if im being haunted by the cards; seeing the 3 of swords now after getting it for months straight is hell! However seeing the tower in a future outcome position of a generally positive spread gives me ‘rug pulled’ vibes

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmThey are like that Fred Rogers quote about “finding the helpers”. They appear when solving the issue or completing the task is not on you alone. Sometimes they refer to attributes of yourself that you need to develop or access, but generally speaking they are your helpers.

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pm5 of Pentacles; whenever I get it I’m like “Jesus, this fucker again?” It just immediately pings alllll my insecurities about money and gets me really anxious. Ofc it shows up a fair bit because it’s probably trying to help me get over said insecurities, or whatever, lol, but I can’t help the “UGH” that comes up when I flip it over.

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pm8 of cups. It always signals my abandonment issues are triggered or they will be triggered/someone will leave me. And then it actually always comes true so you can imagine that this card has become a fear onto itself????????????????

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmThis is so interesting! When I got my tarot deck (RW) I also instantly disliked the moon card for some reason, it scares me more than the devil or death card. I’m a Pisces too!

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmAs I started with my new deck, I sorted them by “like” or “dislike”, so I took pictures of both the “liked” and the “hate” ones. For some of them the relationship has shifted, but there’s still:
– King and Queen of Wands. The Party Royalty. Big authority in the Wands, big, loud communicators, somehow I get some “they are bullying and laughing all the way, unable to see or care about less privileged”
– Nine of pentacles/coins. Boring. The riches are there, but there’s nothing more. It feels empty. I can’t see any value in having lots of coins. Did I mention boring?
– Knight of wands and Six of wands, but mainly because they have a menacing horse face in my deck. That distracts me.
All of those are not really based on the interpretations, but on my initial (and persisting) feeling about them.
edit: funny how almost all of the mentioned in the other posts are in my “I like those cards” list.

GuestFebruary 6, 2021 at 3:07 pmMine’s the Tower. I get anxiety and feel sick to my stomach when there is a major change or curve ball in life if I can’t plan for it. It’s the build up to the top of a rollercoaster hill. All my anxieties build and worries scream at me then the thing happens and it all rushes away. I HATE that build up though. The Tower card just reminds me of that and I just don’t like knowing I’ll have to face that feeling again.
