Relevant Terry Pratchett quote: “The reason Granny was a better witch than Magrat was because she knew it didn’t make any difference what kind of herb you used, or even if it was a piece of grass.”

Ha, Love this sentiment! Although, polka dots and matching nails are actually aesthetically awesome. Fuzzy robe mojo!

I started practicing wicca as a solitary practitioner when I was still just a kid

The whole first part of my book of shadows is in crayon and colored pencils

Hey man, I can’t always be a glamour witch. Sometimes I gotta be a snuggle witch

I keep trying to tell people this! The deeper the practice, the less the theater matters.

Truth. The best plant soaps & salves I’ve bought all come in zippie bags labeled with handwritten labels cut in half to stretch them further, or with home-printed stickers with goofy fonts.

Just find some random bones, cement chunks, a dying plant, wrap it in copper wire, burry it in a 6 foot hole.

Beacon to remind Zeus that he should keep his clothes on.

This is so me lol. My most successful spells are ones done on the fly, and my most fulfilling rituals are the ones I’ve squeezed ad-hoc in between the daily crap.

I feel you, put a spell jar into an empty pill bottle the other day✨

True, magic will work equally well no matter exactly how you do it or even what your intentions are. Literally does not matter at all. Use a fancy glass jar, use a pill bottle, use a specialty herb, use weed, none of it matters in the slightest. As long as it feels good.

I don’t know much about historical witchcraft but people back in Ye Olden Times didn’t live in a cottage, hang-dry herbs from their garden, wear cloaks, or hand write everything because it was aesthetic. That was their version of a modern house, a modern kitchen, modern clothes, and typing notes on your phone. Did people use glass bottles? Sure, cause they didn’t have Tupperware back then. Candles or rush lights instead of electric lighting? It wasn’t old fashioned back then. It was just the present day world. And there’s nothing wrong with taking *our* present day world and working with it to our advantage.

I think people feel like they have to make their witchcraft match this old fashioned aesthetic to be “authentic,” and it’s not bad to want that look and feel in your craft. But it’s not what it’s all about 🙂

My best work is done when I’m emotional, dirty, and just grabbing things that intuitively feel right. Usually in sweats and mukluks. My house is crammed with weirdness yet not goblin/cottage/anything core. My garden is lovingly chaotic. I’m definitely not a Pinterest-Witch.
