Hi! I really want to learn how to read tarot and I have a book about it coming in 2 days but I still feel pretty lost. Does anyone have any tips on where to start/how to start. I feel like books are a good sources but personal experience and tips from different people is ten times better. The book also isn’t gonna teach me about how to connect with the cards, how to cleanse them or anything like that.

There are a bazillion videos on youtube. Sleep with your cards under your pillow to connect with your cards. That’s a trick passed on to me from one of my teachers who was told to do so by his teacher. If you really want to dive deep learn what Michael Tsarion has to say about tarot. Best of Luck!

Simple thing for cleansing: I like to think that I am cleaning something, so I visualize dirty cards being, well, clean while I hold them in my palms. You can also run incense around them. I do both sometimes! Honestly anything can be cleansing. Ask yourself what will make them feel clean to you, this will be the best answer

Look and dissect the symbolism of the cards as well as the traditional meaning. Can you discern the meaning by looking at the pictures? Not sure if you have a tumblr but this post is old and extremely useful: https://blog.hellboundwitch.com/post/41437611415/hey-there-i-was-wondering-if-you-had-any-tips-for

When you’re learning you don’t need to stress too hard about decorum. Everyone has their own rhythms and personal rituals and those are really things that come with using the cards. You’ll find the movements for clearing, shuffling, and connecting that make sense to you.

Learning tarot is two main components, knowing what the cards mean and knowing how to intuitively apply and convey their meanings. In the early days of learning keeping a tarot journal is invaluable, pull cards and write down their meanings or some key words, look at books as often as needed. Eventually you stop having to reach for the book.

This video is very helpful, especially for people who learn better by watching/listening rather than by reading text: [https://youtu.be/_NDuHfxp0NQ](https://youtu.be/_NDuHfxp0NQ)

start w building blocks. you need a BASE to start from.

know your suits, numbers, colors, symbolism, court member attributes, court suit attributes, the natural order of the cards. things like that. it’ll be easier to recall meanings without pounding senseless definitions into your brain.

    Use ???? A ???? Journal ????
I really can’t recommend it enough. Whenever I do a spread, I make sure to write down the date, the question, the deck used, show the layout of the spread, the question for each card placement before I even draw a card. Then I try to interpret each card just by looking at it and trying to suss out the meaning. I’ll follow that up with the meanings from the deck’s book and see how well they match up with what I inferred the meanings were. This was by far the fastest way for me to learn the cards, way better than any flash card type method.

I’d also recommend looking into the numerology of it a bit. Like all the 5s are going to have a theme of conflict, etc. That will also help you too.

I use sage to clean before every reading. Today’s reading was backgrounded by 4 of my favorite candles with 7 wicks. I like all four elements in every reading. I blow sage as wind or open a window. I gather some crystals like amethyst, obsidian, and quartz for a little more earth. Fire is in the flame of the candles, and water is just usually something I drink. Wine usually works for me, but anything you drink is ok. I then emptied the cards on my altar cloth and burned sage. Then I shuffled to my hearts content and read the cards.

Anyway you feel or do something is ok. Today just felt right to do those things so I did and I was happy with it. I may continue that way for accuracy, but what your intuition tells you is what’s right.
