I see multiple posts on here daily about free readings or people just offering others readings. Surely this has to be harmful in _some_ cases.allowing others to be tapping into our energy with potentially negative intentions (again not in every case) cannot be conducive, surely?

    Thoughts?

I don’t think it’s dangerous at all. It’s not like they are taking anything from you. Spiritual energy isn’t a some solid, finite thing. It’s on a totally different plane of existence. I see it more as them taking a sniff of a scent or reading the images and text from a book rather than taking a bucketful of water from a well.

I feel half the people into this stuff have this battlefield/war-like take in mysticism that just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s always so much drama. “They’re taking my energy!” “A little girl needs my help to free her spirit!!” “Entities are attached to my energy field!!!!” “My third eye is breaking open and giving me migraines!!!” “Ahhhhh! Mirrors are portals to dark entities!!!!”

It just all sounds like drama and earthly nonsense and feels like people are trying to come up with mystical takes based on movies that center them as the main character in some mystical/fantasy world full of danger. I don’t think the spirit world or the spiritual plane works like that, nor do the spiritual gifts and practices.

It can be. But that’s why you have to use discernment

I don’t feel like I tap into people’s energy at all when I give a reading. I’m connecting with Spirit, but not the person. I simply ask Spirit if anyone wants to speak with them, since fake screen names don’t matter to them one bit. I never ask for names, or situations, or anything. I don’t WANT to know, because I feel that that helps convince people that the reading is legit, and because I don’t want to influence myself in any way, no matter how unintentional.

A good tarot reader can read for you without very much personal information, usually i just need background on the situation and nothing else

Who says they’re tapping into any energy? Yes, they are reading your energy, but that can be done without getting in your space. Yes, there are scammers, so your first step is to read this:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Psychic/comments/p1nhfh/scams_and_scammers/

If you don’t feel comfortable getting a free readings from a stranger, you don’t have to get one. You will figure things out in your life just fine.

You ask an incomplete question that ends with “…cannot be conducive, surely?”

    Conducive to what?

Is that a question or a statement?

I have never offered readings online. People come to me randomly when they need to by word-of-mouth. I was actually given to a young lady one time as a wedding shower gift. I have read at spiritual, bookstores and small parties. I knew the people at these events.

I am also an empath so I can usually tell whether people are playing me or not.

I always advise people to get references or go to someone they were recommended to. I have had readings from strangers, but those were just for fun and I didn’t take them seriously.

Well you’re just saying that if the scenario is bad then it’s bad, and if it’s good then it’s good.

Obviously it’s dangerous, but it’s not necessarily a danger. It depends on the reader and the querent and how the interaction goes.

One scenario could go badly with a bad outcome, but any other could just as easily be helpful and clarifying.
