Hi. I’ve used tarot cards casually for a while now, just pulling cards for myself and on rare occasion friends and coworkers. I like to think that I have a pretty decent intuition for reading them and putting together meanings.

However – there have always been a few cards that just were ‘blank spaces’ to me. No matter the deck or the artwork, they just aren’t graspable, they carry no spark, they resonate no meaning for me. It’s always been a point of frustration because otherwise I really do enjoy it.

So – i started looking for oracle decks to use, but try as I might nothing has popped out at me. I’ve seen plenty of gorgeous artwork and fun decks, but haven’t found one yet that really ticks my boxes in regards to eliciting a reaction from my intuition radar, which is usually how i pick a deck.

Which made me think about putting together my own deck, but that’s a really daunting prospect. Not just in terms of artwork, but in all the particulars. How many cards? How specific the meanings? Words or no?

If you’ve made your own deck how did you work all this stuff out?

Creating an oracle deck is even more personal and vague than a tarot deck. I would just start out by making a list of everything you want in an oracle, and list all of the archetypes or messages you want to hit on with your deck to get the number of cards.

    Please share your progress!

it might help (especially with artwork) if you pick a central (or multiple) themes to focus on for the deck and then build it from that! also, if you aren’t already, you might be interested in lenormand! it’s a similar system to tarot, but only has 36 cards.

good luck if you decide to make your own deck! i’d love to see some progress updates about it! 🙂
