I have been watching here and there, shows like Celebrity Ghosts, that one with Kim Russo, in particular, those with televised medium interactions). They are not new.

A part of my peeking out of the medium closet was the original Ghost Hunters, which at first, gave me hope. Then came Ghost Adventures which horrified me. I won’t even delve into the negativity of Haunted and Paranormal Witness.

I think that some of these shows do us a disservice and perpetuate stereotypes. I think some of them, bring us into a less awkward light.

How do all of you feel?

In particular, I think Kim Russo has the effect of allowing the public to see we are regular people with an added talent, like an artist or a musician. Apart from the introduction, (which is spooky ghost cute)…I love that show about the two mediums in Canada.

I have other feelings about the televised audience readings. I feel those make us seem more like charlatans.

Do you think we are making progress? Do you like these shows? I am studying the perception of mediums in the media, lately.

I have also found that a lot of the individuals visiting the sub, or who message me, have no idea what a medium does, or what types of psychic skills we all possess, such as clairvoyance and precognition, (which are individual).

    Any thoughts and opinions?

TV mediums give a really weird Hollywood-ish view of what being a medium is about. Kind of like how TV depicts nurses.

Believing the TV mediums is like believing that Instagram people are always that happy and look that perfect. It’s all fake for entertainment and money making.

Real mediums (or nurses) , end up having weird expectations from people who believe in the TV depiction.

Agree. As a clairvoyant/ medium..(?) Its all tied together. I havent seen rhe show youre talking about but . But yes, its often the case where we all in the new age /metaphysical community are made to look over the top or clearly fraudulent. Sadly, people who need help dont ask because of stuff like that.
I hope things get better. The Aquarian age vibe should help.

I don’t think the world is ready to know about how mediums really are, along with life after death and everything else so I don’t think it’s bad that the truth isn’t widespread. It is unfortunate that these things often tarnish mediums in the eyes of people who watch and believe these shows and movies but it won’t stop those who want to really learn from mediums or be read or healed by them.

I have a lot of mixed feelings on this topic.

On one hand I appreciate those like Kim Russo, Monica the Medium and Rebecca Rosen who have gone out and publicized their work and how they go about doing it in an ethical manner.

On the other hand, I understand that most of those kinds of television shows don’t get picked up long-term and aren’t popular because they don’t have the dramatic entertainment flair that the industry and viewers really want. Shows like Ghost Adventures fit the profile of a mysterious, scary, thriller-like show and that fits the entertainment industry’s bill and profile of what works for them even if it’s not accurate. That’s what’s popular and so that’s the perception that is spread and that perception is what is misrepresentative of what we are as a whole.

This Aquarian age : is like the new age of 70s 90s..but more inclusive. I think because people are just fed up. Ready to get back to basics and more humanity ,less billionaires. Unique personalities, yes aquar. But more ‘aware”

When I first got interested in learning about the supernatural, my Mom and I also got into Ghost Hunters when I was younger. We even did a Halloween tour of Fort Delaware which was a tradition they had on that show for a while. (I had my first validating medium experience there, so can confirm things certainly do happen there but been twice now and it’s not as scary as they made it seem on the show. The energy seems mostly residual and neutral.)

I guess about high school age I watched Long Island Medium and it would make me cry hearing the stories of lost loved ones and their readings. I’m sure you can imagine how disappointing it was for me to then find out cold readings and not understanding how someone could scam another person like that and be able to sleep with themselves at night. :/ That put me off medium related things for a few years until my grandfather passed and it sparked a ton of personal experiences for me.

During quarantine I got really into Psychic kids on Hulu. I recommend watching if you haven’t seen it. I really liked the episodes with Peri Zarrella as a mentor. She always seemed authentic to me. I also liked the way Ryan Michaels as a mentor. Chip Coffey was also in a few episodes and I had high hopes for him because he’s almost as famous as Lorraine Warren it seems with those types of shows, but I’ve heard from some who have gotten readings from him that he’s a cold reader 🙁

I’ve never heard of Kim Russo but will check her out now. What’s her show called? Can it only be watched in Canada?

I always love when there’s a new show about mediums and get so excited to watch. But some of the previous shows I’ve seen previously like Long Island Medium created a sadly big distrust for me. It’s soooo disappointing when you think there’s someone whose experiences you can finally relate to only to find out they were a fraud the whole time. I’ve liked A&E’s psychic kids on Hulu the best recently but who knows. I’ve been wrong before! :/
