I’ve been in a weird, indescribable spot since the news came out. I had a second trimester miscarriage last June. I wanted the baby, it was 11 months after having a stillborn boy at 34 weeks, another wanted baby. When I discovered his heartbeat had stopped, the second loss I mean, it had been about 5 days. I hadn’t been bleeding yet and my doctor was worried that I wouldn’t pass the tissue, and if I did it would be really painful. So my options were to stay in the hospital for 3 days and be induced into a very painful labor, or have a d&e. I was also at risk of hemorrhaging. So. I opted for the d&e. When I told my Catholic, Republican mother, she cried. Did she cry because I lost another baby or because I had to have an abortion?
But I’m worried. Every time I sit down to think about it, I get anxious and start to cry. My partner and I just started talking about being comfortable trying for another, but Im scared. If I lose another would I get a triple murder sentence? Technically my losses were preventable with proper medical imaging and intervention, but all these assholes keep putting money on preventing women from getting rid of babies they don’t want instead of putting the money towards proper prenatal care. If republicans didn’t want me to lose my babies, I should have had access to the things that would have prevented it.

Kind of cool that it’s trans inclusive! As a happily sterile woman, I am admittedly unthrilled by the conflation of power/authority with bearing children (I know that this source is fictional, but even in pagan spirituality there’s this concept popping up again and again, I’m tired of it).
