My ex has very fractured relationships with his family as in none of them speak or see him. His dad got a terminal illness diagnosis in January & a short while after we split up & got back together in July, my ex got a phone call from his half brother saying that his dad had died an hour before.
It was his dad’s express wish that his only child ( my ex) was not told that he was dying.
I find this very disturbing that he didn’t want his only child to know & to not make amends.
Much to my surprise after much debate, my ex decided to visit his dad’s body in the hospice the next day & I went with him. I can’t fully describe what I felt but it wasn’t peace. I left there feeling very on edge.

You likely felt the tension between them. It might be more towards therapy than medium but I feel your ex may need to talk to someone about it and fully heal/let go of the situation. His father left here with the animosity still in his heart but that does not mean your ex has to.

Obviously I don’t know his dad’s exact situation but I can someone relate as my father did not disclose his true health situation to his family until very, very close to the end. He was very hurt about things that had gone on and that his family had not done more to repair the wounds over the years and I think he just didn’t have the energy to deal with it nor would an apology because it was close to the end have felt genuine.

Gutless. Some men are gutless. Though once you pass over all you want for people is love and forgiveness. All changes.
