My Father’s Spirit After Death

I thought this would be the right sub to share an experience I had when I was young.

When I was 3 years old, my father passed away from a heart attack while asleep in bed. I don’t remember anything from this time in my life and I only have three memories involving my father. But a few months later, my mother says that I interacted with my father’s spirit in the garage.

My mom came to the garage and saw me playing some kind of game alone. She asked me:

“What are you playing?”

Then I casually answered, “I’m playing with dad.”

“Do you like seeing your father?”

“No…no…no…” At that questions I started crying and going to my mom. She was confused since she’d assume I’d like to see my dad again.

This experience is very confusing to me since I don’t remember it even if mom says it happened. But why could only I see him? Why was he still here? Was he unable to move on at the time? I also don’t know why I started crying, did I feel like something’s off with him or did seeing a spirit frighten me?

It’s very common for young children to be able to see relatives who have passed, and for adults and older children not to have that ability. Young children are more open to the spirit world.

>Why was he still here?

Spirits come to visit us sometimes, especially young relatives. He was your dad and had a special connection to you. It’s natural he would want to spend time with you.

>Was he unable to move on at the time?

If he was playing with you it’s unlikely that he was trapped here. Spirits who are trapped are usually disturbed in some way.

You were a child. What felt normal and fun suddenly didn’t feel normal or fun when your mom called attention to it
