Sweets are a great idea! I usually go for things my loved ones liked when they were alive—cigarettes for grandma, cheap beer for grandpa, fabric and spools of thread for granny, sci fi books for one uncle, cologne for the other.

I feel my greatest offering is the words I tell them on Samhain. What I have been doing since we last talked. How much I miss them. My love for them. Those are the only offerings I can give that I feel sure they will receive. BB.

I give them what I know liked, such as coffee for my Mom any way I choose to make it and pennies for my uncle who was into I-Ching.

Booze, cigarrettes, fruit, candy, potato chips, muffins and cup of hot cocoa. Think o them as visitors from a long and tiring trip. They need some comfort while staying with you, and also they long for old flavors of their early years.

Water is something they like, and you can use the water in protection sprays.

Coffee and tea are popular too.

Candies are a big hit, and they really like the snake plant I put there too.

They also burn through candles like no tomorrow. They like the white ones that smell of lemon…

It takes playing around to find what they like, or you can ask them for guidance. Some will tell you either in dreams or when you’re grocery shopping you’ll get a pull to buy something you usually wouldn’t.

    Hope that helps. 🙂

If you poke around online you’ll find a recipe for “lembas bread” style scones or biscuits. They’re our household’s favorite offerings to make for the Dead. If you add autumnal spices [cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice] they’re even tastier.
