Azathoth: this deck is supposed to resemble HP Lovecraft’s work, and “is intended to be a deck that might have existed in the Lovecraftian universe” (courtesy of the 13MoonsMagick description). my experiences with this deck have been great thus far: i think it works best with those who are going through hardships and are at a crossroads. i mainly got this deck because the art was gorgeous and i knew i had to get it when i first saw it, but i’ve deeply connected with it already.

Amenti: this deck is based on the 42 Ideals of Ma’at (an Egyptian belief), which i’d never heard of until after i bought it. each card gives some advice for making your heart as light as a feather for when your heart is weighed on the scale in the afterlife. the booklet that comes with it heavily elaborates on each card and what it means to the author. it also includes quotes (and sources, of course) for many of the cards, including one from The Emerald Tablets of Thoth. i’ve done one spread and one pull with this deck thus far, and both gave me I Live in Truth as one of the results, which is all about shedding what you no longer need to continue to grow. i just thought this was kind of interesting and the deck is definitely trying to tell me something (i shuffled well, i promise).

conclusion: i think both of these decks are spot on, although i do recommend an interview spread to figure out what the deck can do for you. these have just been my experiences, but great experiences nonetheless. would recommend. 🙂

I have the azathoth tarot – it was the second deck I have gotten. I really like it as well, although I don’t use it very often ever since my collection has expanded. I typically use it only when it’s nearing Halloween season. The cards are a bit big for my hands, but the images are beautiful. It’s also a nice RWS deck with some Thoth elements. Glad to see others use it too.
