I received a new deck for christmas that was from one of those kits from a toy store but i figured with the right cleansing it would be okay. i slept with it under my pillow for a week, cleansed with incense and left selenite on it for a day. i’m still not feeling a connection and nothings making sense to me when i pull. i have three other decks and have never felt so little while doing a reading. is it me being reluctant or because it’s not a well known/verified deck?

Hey! Don’t worry too much! These things can take time. And a deck being verified/well known should not matter, in my opinion. Think of it as cultivating a new relationship….some might feel right instantly, while others take a bit longer. Sometimes a new pair of shoes takes some wearing before they’re comfortable, and pretty soon they become your favorite! I say, give it some more time and patience, you’re not doing anything wrong! Even if you’re not “feeling” it, maybe continue to give the deck a chance, do some daily draws or some simpler, less pressure type readings. Of course, if you’re REALLY not feeling it, don’t force yourself, and accept that it is OK to let things go and move on. Best of luck, and hope you keep us updated on how it goes!

Not feeling drawn to a deck is a totally normal thing and can definitely get in the way of reading, especially if you read intuitively. If you have other decks that you are more drawn to, definitely don’t try to force it with this one!

However I do think it’s worth meditating on what it is that you think is causing you to feel disconnected. From your language it sounds like you have some judgement towards these cards, either because of how they were packaged or whatever it is that makes them not a verified deck. This is only my opinion, but in my experience judgement like that about what can and can’t be a powerful deck is likely to cause problems in readings in your practice in general. I try to approach every reading with as little judgement as possible, because that clouds my intuition a lot.

    Good luck!

Some decks just aren’t for you! I’ve bought decks before where I’ve really liked the look of them online, but I just can’t seem to read with them for whatever reason. I just rehome it and remember that not every deck will be my cup of tea. In my opinion, no amount of cosleeping or crystals will change the concrete fact that every deck is designed differently, and not all of them will be made for you.

Probably. Does that matter in the big picture? Not at all – if you’re not feeling it, youre not feeling it, and WHY doesn’t matter so much.

Honestly, you’re not feeling a “connection” because there’s nothing magical about tarot cards. They’re just slips of cardboard with images on them that take the form of old style playing cards. There’s nothing magical about incense or gypsum crystals that will “cleanse” anything.
