Lately, we have seen a large number of posts in which a novice medium or an aspiring medium or a non-medium comes to the sub asking for "Do it Yourself," advice.

There are good reasons to hire a competent professional, one of them being fear based on lack of extensive knowledge. Channeling has some dangerous consequences if it is attempted without training. Do you know.what you are allowing permission to be in your own body, your own vessel?

It can be a sort of Russian roulette.

Some of the requests are concerning. So.I am addressing them.

I have some serious concerns about the newer, hopeful mediums. Mediumship is not a hobby. Spirit workers are compelled to be as such by spirits. There are pitfalls such as shaman sickness and emotional turmoil. Until a prospective medium takes measures to heal their own emotional and spiritual trauma, it can be very dangerous. Healing is necessary. It is a continuous process and takes time. Time can mean years.

Failing to train properly does not always help to avoid spirit attachments, making mistakes channeling or being careless and causing mental and emotional issues for the medium and spirits. However, it is highly advised not to take this lightly and to train with experienced mediums.

Being a spirit worker is not like making a casserole. It requires psychic protection. This takes months to learn. It can take years.

It takes training and often mentorship to learn psychic skills. Mediumship is much more involved than seeing spirits as a child, trying to learn tarot or doing rituals.

I find myself concerned that some of the new, hopeful mediums see the process of doing this work as something that can be learned overnight. It is more complicated, and it isn't like picking veggies out of a salad bar.

Before you try to take on spirit, you need to learn how to protect yourself. You need to learn to use energy properly. You need to learn to discern the nature of spiritual.energies and to take a good, hard look at how your childhood beliefs can skew your understanding of what you see, shadow selves, soul fragments and entities before before embarking on the journey of working with souls and spirits.

This is also true for naturally born psychics. We have to learn.

It isn't as easy or as simple as waving a smudge stick in front of a candle, as easy as waving crystals around.

I am expressing this as an experienced medium who is truly concerned. It is not difficult to identify the comments that are coming from the curious who are misinformed and inexperienced.

It is not difficult to spot posts by children.

I feel it important to post this. I am grateful for the veterans who comment and give excellent advice here.

Our experienced mediums know mediumship is a difficult journey, even if one begins as a young person or comes from a family with abilities. Most born psychic medius must learn for self-protection.

    Take care.
