I’ve been doing readings for about 10 months now, and I usually only do spreads where each card represents an abstract concept. For instance, my two favorite spreads are “past, present, future” and “embrace, accept, let go.” I’ve been trying to dive into spreads that utilize more than 3-5 cards, and I’m noticing that some spreads will have a card represents a question that has a yes/no answer. For example I was looking up romance spreads and each position would be a question like “will the attraction be instant?” or “do you already know your soul mate?” It seems like those questions are a bit too concrete and rigid to be able to apply any card in the deck to it, so how do you guys go about interpreting for more rigid questions, or do you stick to more abstract readings such as “this card represents your mind while this one represents your heart”?

I personally don’t. Tarot and most oracle cards are just not equipped for it. One might as well throw the dice or use a pendulum over folded yes and no’s. Yes or no is basically clairvoyant in nature as intuitive responses can provide that level of specificity, on average takes about 2 seconds if that long.

We have moved into an era of instant gratification when it comes to readings, but I avoid this where possible and try to teach clients and students to be more constructive in their approach. For example if a person says will and attraction be instant, and there is no attraction, there is nowhere to go with it. it is pretty final. The querant may really want to know more about future love prospects, timing and what they need to do to prepare but haven’t equipped themselves with an understanding of the role they play in their own futures.

Incidentally romance questions tend to run the gratification side of queries, I use segues to divert a client, and straight up tell students to think about what they really want to know before committing to a query. There is a difference between serious clients who almost never ask yes or no and freebie hunters who tend to hit the shallow end of the pool with a thump. Do things the way you are comfy doing them and honour your inspirations, trying to please others could leave you feeling a tad winded. xx good luck

Coming from a psychological approach. Someone who has had a lot of experience with therapy, through my own experiences and with training at university.

This is just my take on it.

Yes or no questions in a therapy session is a big no no. It’s what would be called leading questions. It doesn’t allow any wiggle room, and or allow thoughts to be explored naturally within the space.

So I approach each tarot session like it’s a therapy session. The querent would be treated as someone who is easily manipulated or impressed upon. People don’t come for readings most of the time when things are going right for them.

That’s why you might see me get quite annoyed with a reader who I felt was giving out information with no thought to the querent and their mental health space.

These people are vulnerable and it makes it difficult to see readers who make definitive declarations. No offence to that style but divination does not exist. Learning your future in my opinion is ethically ambiguous. I will never read the “future” of a querent.
To me it’s the same as a medium pretending to speak to your long lost father. First of all, whether you believe in psychic energy or not. Is irrelevant.

You are automatically in a position of power. Therefore you need to act with this idea in your mind. Just like a psychologist can do immense psychological damage. Tarot readers can cause untold psychological and spiritual damage. Always be mindful of the mindset of the querent.

So for me your asking a leading question to tarot and the querent. There are reasons that leading questions are bad. Why should it be any different?

So in answer to your question. The entire concept is a fat no from me.

I am sure a big percentage of readers will disagree. It is only an opinion that I hold. A way I have made, due to the fact that I read from a psychological and jungian approach.

Anyone serious about spiritual development and growth, I would consider extremely dubious if they told me they could see my future. I would say that’s none of your business. Let’s deal with the present issues thank you very much. There is a reason why we don’t already know our future.

I do yes or no for clients when I can’t get them to listen and rephrase their questions. People gonna people, and they’re only cheating themselves. I’ve found it works and the card that comes up makes it clear. But I’m also an intuitive reader so I get more information from a card than what is in books and that I think helps being able to answer those kinds of questions. But again they’re cheating themselves by not getting more out of a reading then my telling them shit they can just wait and find out for themselves.

I’ve done it before but I figure a pendulum works just as well.
