Did you guys notice, that classic bodies except sun and moon rule same square pairs? Earth and air: Mercury, Venus, Saturn. Fire and water: Mars, Jupiter. Even single rulership is square elements. Sun fire, moon water. Any esotheric ideas for that?
You can practically divide planets to two categories of psychology. Thinking: earth and air. Feeling: Fire and water.

Well, you are sort of, kind of, heading toward the [Thema Mundi (see image).](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/806143486196842526/806647308744785970/Learn_THEMA_MUND_light_01.jpg) And it really is more amazing and poetic than you know.

But not all earth and air signs are square each other. Earth virgo and air gemini are square, yes, but gemini and taurus are next to each other, semisextile (not a ptolemaic aspect though). And gemini and capricorn are quincunx. This goes for fire and water as well.

What IS amazing is that *every planet rules a balanced pair of signs:* one being diurnal, one being nocturnal. And the pair of lights (sun, moon) also rule a pair of balanced signs, cancner and leo, one diurnal, one nocturnal.

There is even a formula for the dignities and debilities. Planets in signs opposite their domicile are in detriment. Planets in exaltation are always either sextile or trine their domicile sign and fall is always the sign opposite the exaltation.

There is perfect balance in the rulerships in the Thema Mundi. It’s why, while we can still absolutely use and find value in the outer planets, we really can’t just shove them into the existing rulership construct.

There’s also a way to subdivide the elements like the signs.

the elements can be considered by a 2×2 combination.

Hot vs Cool, Dry vs. Moist.

Hot vs Cool is pretty much yin/yang, feminine/masculine, negative/projective. Heat **emanates** and coolness, as substance lacking heat/energy **absorbs**-takes in from environment.

Dryness and Moisture I’ve never thought on till now, but seem to have to do with penetrability or interconnectedness. Things that are dry tend to contract, move in on themselves from dehydration, also indicating lack of ambient moisture thereby disconnection from an atmospheric watery matrix. Moist things tend to swell (osmosis) until a homeostatic balance with the atmosphere is established. They are in active communication with ever other thing connected to this “moisture matrix”.

    Hot+Dry=Fire

    Cool+Dry=Earth

    Hot+Moist=Air

    Cool+Moist=Water

These qualities directly tie the classical elements to the associated medieval humours, which I believe Planets have their own associated humerical qualities.
