I don’t think anyone would choose this method instead of a medically safe procedure just because. It’s only when they are forced against their will and have no other options. In desperate times, people will do desperate and terrible things.

Safer options:

* Illegally obtaining modern drugs like mifepristone and misoprostol. Organizations exist to get these to women in places where she cannot get them under a doctor’s supervision
* Using resources like /r/auntienetwork to fund travel someplace where abortion is legal
* “Menstrual extractors”– a safer homemade alternative to sharp instruments that uses a vacuum instead

Many herbal remedies not only seriously risk your life, but do not have very good success rates for causing abortion. We have better options.

Absolutely. Will they work? Yes, if taken correctly and in the right doseage. Will you possibly hemorrhage to death because Google and the plant app and new age ‘expert’ you trusted knew just enough to cause you serious, possibly irreparable harm? Also yes.

I live in Northern Ireland where until recently we have not had any access to abortion, not even medically because our main government party is a bunch of dinosaurs. Here you were required to travel to mainland UK for access to such facilities. The control these people have over women is heartbreaking. How do you access safe services when your scared people will tell on you? There were news items here of women who were arrested for ordering pills online and it’s friends or family who tell on them. I hope in America it doesn’t end up like here.

I feel that this is only helpful information if you add resources for how people can get help finding plan c or transport/funds to a safe state. This isn’t like Covid where people are popping back horse de-wormer like it’s *better* than a vaccine. If people are hitting up alternatives it’s not by choice, it’s specifically because they have no other choice.

I have a certain mint growing wild all over my yard which has been used as an abortifacient for millennia. Not that I know how to prepare it for that purpose!
