    I have been studying astrology for a handful of years. I’m finding myself at a more advanced level than my peers and those in groups I am a member in. I’m wondering, those of you who are Professional Astrologers, have you received accreditation of any kind? I’ve found in asking this question that everyone is just self proclaimed. I don’t see a problem with this because I know studying for 10 – 30 years will give you allllllot a lot a lot of info, but if you provide services professionally do you need to meet a certain standard/qualification?

    I am a certified reiki practitioner and want to provide astrological counseling. I am confident but only want to provide this service when I am more rounded in my knowledge (for obvious reasons) and when I have received the proper qualifications, *if any*

    My understanding is that any certificate in astrology is nonsense and means nothing because it’s not like there is a regulatory body to oversee practitioners. A certificate normally means that you are accredited by a specific regulatory body or institution that you pay fees to and this protects you from certain liabilities. So I am not sure what kind of credential you want but it would be no more proof of anything than something you made yourself lol

    I can’t help you but it is a big problem. I know some astrologers who are extraordinary, insightful, very very clever and experienced with it but from a stranger’s perspective there is no way to know if it’s someone like that or a charlatan (or a complete newbie/ bad reader etc) without actually meeting them and getting a reading from them. I think it’s a bit of a problem more broadly.

    Personally I studied for about 3 years, went to astrology meet ups weekly, read a ton, hosted an astrology meetup, and went to a ton of classes / webinars before charging for services. You also have to practice though so I asked for donations for readings for about a year before. There are a couple of certifications you can get through ISAR, NCGA and Kepler if that’s the route you want to take.

    Sadly there is no “real” certification as an industry standard, as it’s all voluntary. And there is no industry-wide determination of what constitutes proficiency. I wish it did exist. but ISAR has been a respected institution.

    [ISAR (International Society for Astrological Research)](https://isarastrology.org/certification/) has the certification that any who wish to, can do. That link goes to the Certification page. It’s a 6-hour exam and they also require some additional courses (see below). I know they administer these exams and provide courses at the ISAR (and other) Conferences. I think they do them elsewhere as well, in between conferences, but I’m not certain.

    They require 4 modules (costs other than for exam are unknown):

    * Consulting Skills Training Course
    * Ethics Awareness Training Course and Test
    * The ISAR Competency Exam $195
    * Three Elective Courses (see list of these from 2008 in the ISSUU link below)

    There is a full text of their [Ethics Standards here.](https://isarastrology.org/about/code-of-ethics-7-2003/)

    Their website is a bit frustrating. They had a [conference planned in Denver Colorado](https://isar2020.org/) in the middle of the pandemic, and I know there were pages on that site about certification, but I can’t find them now. (The conference went virtual, and the talks can still be purchased.)

    And these are quite old, from the Dec 2007 ISSUU/isarastrology magazine. They give some information about the actual exam questions. Whether they have changed, I don’t know. But it at least gives an idea perhaps.

    Research OPA, AFAN, NCGR, ISAR…there are others. Don’t let downer comments stop you. Accreditation is great if it is right for you. As for Ethics many of these Orgs are in the middle of updating them.

    Also do you have a local astrologer that you could “apprentice” under?

    Very good post. I was at a similar moral dillema few months ago because i was confident in my reading skills but felt bad because i felt there was no way for a client to see how good or bad i was. In the end i did few free giveaways and got few clients who were happy with the readings and i use them as a proof before future readings in case a client wants some confirmation. Im still not happy with it but since i feel getting any sort of certificate isnt very helpful in this field(since you can feel you are more knowledgeable than someone who evaluates you or simply disagree with them, which is unheard of when you try to get certificate in any other field) i feel its the best scenario i know. Try to find some past reading where the client wasnt satisfied with the reading and try to find reasons for it going the way it did. If no such thing occured, trust me you are already qualified enough to provide counseling.
