    The good old Ryder-Waite-Smith is a great beginner deck, if only because so many guides and resources look to that one as a foundation. The imagery can also be great for familiarizing yourself with the cards’ meanings.

    In my experience which ever deck you choose you will start studying. Each deck differs slightly so which ever you pick will be the one you become good with. I started with a Thoth deck not knowing how much information there was in it. It became a huge undertaking but it is still the one I’m the best with.

    I would stick with one based on Ryder-Waite-Smith , even if the actual deck doesn’t appeal (it doesn’t really for me). There’s so many resources for this deck that it means there’s a lot out there to help you with. Otherwise, I’d just take a look at some of the decks out there and see what one calls to you. If you want specific names, some popular ones are Mystic Mondays, Modern Witch, Wild Unknown. I also have Linestrider and really like it.

    For reference, I also started with the Thoth deck and, while I love it dearly, it’s not the most approachable one out there.

    i would recommend decks that are based off the imagery from Rider Waite Smith as it’ll make it easier to study the meanings. many resources refer to those illustrations. if you don’t like the style of the original RWS decks, consider

    * Modern Witch
    * Everyday Witch
    * Radiant Rider Waite
    * Everyday Tarot
    * Golden Art Nouveau
    * Golden Thread Tarot
    * Universal Waite

    decks like the Wild Unknown are very popular but have confusing imagery so they might not be great for beginners imo

    A good beginner deck would be the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, as it’s the most widespread deck, with lots of information on interpreting the cards available online and in books. If you’re like me and don’t care for its art, however, there are also some good ones based on the RWS themes by different artists. My first deck was the Robin Wood tarot, which is very similar thematically to RWS, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

    My first was the Everyday Tarot deck from Amazon. It is like 10 bucks and is a really good deck with meaningful but simplistic imagery. When you pair that with the Labyrinthos tarot learning app (like I did), you will be able to understand the cards in no time!
