Requests for Donations for “Free Readings”

I am posting with a throwaway account so as to avoid any backlash.

Rule 6 plainly states: “Offering paid services through reddit on r/psychic is not allowed ”

​

Time and time again, I have seen readers who adver-post “free readings” and ask to be DM’d or chatted, but once you message them, the first thing they type is “Will you be making a donation?” or “Can you make a donation?”

​

Asking for a donation might be some sort of loophole to get around rule 6, but it should be out in the open, noted in the public post, not an opening line to a text or chat for a “free reading”.

I can appreciate that it takes time and talent to give readings. It’s very nice that there are those here who are willing to share their gifts with others.

I also appreciate that there should be no shame attached to being paid for one’s time and services.

​

But this is not the place for paid services, per rule 6. And it’s not right for people to be duped by the false advertising of a so-called “free reading”.

If r/psychic is a subreddit where readers can offer donation-based readings, then that’s great. But if it’s a subreddit where readers can offer free readings, then overtly fishing for donations should not be allowed.

Agreed. Anyone who does this should be banned. It’s a scam, plain and simple.

I messaged someone who was offering free readings and a few minutes later she told me that there were no more free readings available and to pay her.

Nope ????
