Reading Llewellyn’s Astrology guide, they touch on creating a “Solar chart”, for if you only know someone’s birth date & place but not the exact time. The Solar chart uses the subjects birth date & place, & noon as the birth time – since the Moon only moves approx 12° in 24 hours, you can +/- 6° to the Moon placement @ noon that day to determine if it stays in the same sign (therefore *thats* the subjects planet in sign placement) or changes to a neighboring sign (therefore at least narrowing down Moon placement to two signs). My question is… is it possible to do this with the other planets as well? Take how much they move in 24 hours & +/- the variance to its given placement on noon that day? I mean, especially the outer planets, as they move so slow. Am I making any sense?

Planets very in early or late degrees of a sign could change. Mercury could be 29° scorpio or 0° sagittarius. This change would mean two houses (gemini & virgo) having their ruler in its detriment or not.

Also, the ascendent is very sensitive to time changes, as well as the part of fortune, spirit, or any other “parts” (aka lots). Different ascendent means completely different house rulerships if using the whole sign house system.

That being said, having the birthday is okay, but a specific birth time or even estimate is much better.

If you have some resource to find where the Sun is at noon on a given day, that resource should also have the positions of the other planets alongside it. Pretty much every chart drawing program does this by default. I wouldn’t call it “reverse engineering” as much as it’s just how astrology works.

If you want to calculate it by hand, all you need is an ephemeris.
