GuestJune 23, 2022 at 11:10 amI like to say that we’re almost 1/4 of the way through the 21st century but people’s attitudes toward women haven’t found the 18th century yet. On some level, society still thinks women exist purely to have babies.

GuestJune 23, 2022 at 11:10 amAmerican suffragists (the term they preferred, for reasons which will become clear) were cool and all, but the British suffragettes were on another level entirely, with a group of women who enacted a campaign of bombings, arson, and other forms 9f direct action from 1912-1914, when all politics paused due to the war.
(Americans didn’t want to be associated with them, hence the different name.)

GuestJune 23, 2022 at 11:10 amI’d just like to caution everyone wanting to make a suffragette costume to make sure you are vocal in being inclusive. Miss Snappydragon has a good video I’ve linked on how many people the overall movement excluded in order to get some women the right to vote
Editing to add for clarity that my knowledge on this is for the American movement excluding people of color.
