Is it at all worth it? I was thinking that I may see if I can expand my (still relatively rudimentary) skills and get better as a reader, and then maybe see about doing it as a small side business.

I have no idea how much it will wind up costing, so I’m hoping to see there’s someone out there that can tell me if it’s at all worth it or not.

    Thank you!

For reading tarot cards? Ugh. Someone may downvote me, and forgive me in advance if anyone is participating in classes on Shaw Academy- you get out there and get what you need!- but no. I don’t believe it is really worth it.

There’s really nothing I can see in their course that you could not easily learn for yourself in a myriad of other, more traditional ways. Furthermore, the certification isn’t meaningful. The most successful readers I’ve known in the last twenty years did not have a diploma or certification- such a thing did not exist two decades ago.

I’ve posted this elsewhere, earlier, but every professional reader, while having the same fundamental understanding of each card’s meaning, has a nuanced interpretation of what it means to us individually. If I see the 6 of Pentacles in a reading, I won’t necessarily predict the same set of events for the querent that another reader may if they see the same card. That’s because my experience with this card has taught me to expect something specific from it, and that can only be learned directly.

Your very best bet, quite honestly, is to gather as much information as possible from vast virtual library of the internet. There are countless resources that are likely more thorough than Shaw Academy, and free. I would keep a journal, read a card for yourself daily, and offer many readings for the people you know, which will allow you to observe how predicted events come to pass. I would purchase some very good books on Tarot and read them until they fall apart.

Ultimately, however, it is up to you whether or not it is worth it. And you may find it is more convenient to learn in the format of an online class. You may find accessing the fundamentals in a condensed way is easier to absorb and commit to memory, allowing you branch out from there. It really is all relative, and there is no wrong or right, but I would say just in terms of money…..the course really is not necessary.
