So, before the overturn, I had to talk with my pharmacist about this drug, and the talk wasn’t about the drug being abortifacient in the sense that it could be used to cause a miscarriage. It was because the drug will cause severe birth defects (like no face and flippers) which means you’ll have to get an abortion because there is 0 chance the baby would survive. You need to either not be sexually active or using 2 forms of birth control if you take it. Usually if you are on this drug, the last thing your body needs is a pregnancy making additional demands on its systems.

96% of republicans in the House voted AGAINST keeping contraception legal today.

    (C-SPAN)

It’s just going to get worse.

I rather suspect that some chains will do this regardless of state.

Both my daughter (22) and myself (50 in a month) are on MTX for our autoimmunes. She is not sexually active (and isn’t straight anyway) and I’m peri-menopausal, my tubes are tied and my husband is on the road 98% of the time. I have a feeling the next time one of us goes for a refil is going to be hell. (We live in OK.)

This is used for RA as well as a slew of other illnesses.

Rheumatology and Oncology care is seriously going to be affected negativity because of this BS

So I’ve been on methotrexate (MTX for those of us in the autoimmune disease community) for years, switched from pills to injectable. It’s used in conjunction with biologics for my disease, and again, it was originally a chemotherapy drug for certain cancers. It frosts my cake it’s being withheld because it could cause spontaneous abortions or birth defects. It’s a cheaper, widely-available drug though with some people it really messes with your stomach. Everything is wrong with this – if you have cancer or an autoimmune disease, withholding treatment is far more barbaric than preventing pregnancy complications. Edited to add: I thought it was clearly stated in the Hippocratic oath that you FIRST DO NO HARM –

So if anyone cares, that is 100% a Walgreens computer. I worked there for years & would recognize that awful program anywhere.

Reminder that autoimmune patients have been screwed by republicans before since 2020, when they decided hydroxychloroquine was THE treatment for COVID (before ivermectin was trendy), and a bunch of folks couldn’t get their meds because they were going to people screwing around with self treating based on what they read on some QAnon forum.

Do they do this cherade for potential impregnators as well? I mean, this drug can cause birth defects if either person is on it or has been in the six months prior, so it would only be “fair” if they had to prove themselves as well, or at least answer some uncomfortable questions. Am curious.

Denials are already happening in my state (VA) for refills for methotrexate. I know someone personally had it happen today. This is devastating for auto immune disease.

I know a 10-year-old girl who takes this and it’s a life saving drug for her. If things go like they seem to be going, she will be denied as she’s “Of childbearing age”

This war against women needs to end. Everyone needs to vote and insure that all those close to them don’t give up and vote too. We need to talk to reasonable conservatives, as few as there are, and try to change their minds. The majority of people are not okay with this and it needs to be stopped.
