Sleep paralysis with dark smoke-like entity

I have often had sleep paralysis – especially before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Mostly I had benign visions like seeing tree branches growing out of the wall, flowers made out of crystal, or random people looking at me and trying to communicate.

Once, though, I had a very scary experience. I was living in a ground-floor apartment in Arizona. The man that lived in the apartment above me was a drug dealer. I could hear him setting up his generator every night and hear him kicking his wife and beating on her. I reported this to the apartment complex and called 911 a few times, but it took awhile before the apartment complex evicted him. I joked once with the office lady that the upstairs apartment was “cursed” because he was the second tenant to get evicted for doing bad things. She looked like I stepped on her grave. Her eyes got HUGE and she asked me why I used that word “cursed.” I explained that they seemed to have a hard time renting it and then rented it to very bad dudes. She clammed up and wouldn’t discuss it further.

One night while drug dealer was still living upstairs, I woke up unable to move anything except my eyes. My cat jumped off the bed and crept up to the bedroom door. He howled and puffed up as if he were screaming at some intruder that was behind the door. I had never seen my cat act protectively towards me like that, so i was scared. I was laying on my back and I saw a dark shadow move up by the ceiling.

It undulated like an uncoiling snake that was sniffing out prey. It locked onto me and floated purposefully down toward me. I tried to move but couldn’t. I started praying mentally, even though I am not very religious. The shadow formed a head and torso, and it put its “face” right up to mine, as if examining me. I went from terrified to furious, and in my head I started aiming insults at it – telling it “get the f\*\*\* out of my house or I would send it back to hell where it belongs.” Oddly enough, whatever fury I directed towards it made it burst into a thousand tiny little smoke pellets and dissipate. All I did was basically make up my mind that I was going to fight this thing with all my strength, and it seemed to give up.

After it disappeared, I was able to move again. My cat jumped up on the bed and checked on me, making sure I was ok. I was pretty sure that whatever that was, it was evil, and it was living upstairs, feeding off the evil of that awful man.

Has anyone else here, medium or not, seen anything like this shadow shapeshifter? I used to read a lot of Dean Koontz novels, and it reminded me of what he calls “Bodachs.” I wondered if the author had also seen something like this in his life, and that is where he drew inspiration for his shadow creatures?

Any thoughts? I’d love to hear them.

I saw something similar a couple of times, also in an apartment, and never again before or after living there.

It looked like the vapor(?) wave / mirages you see on the pavement on hot days, black and rippling. I saw it 3x in that apartment, once while awake and twice while in bed. One of the times, our cat also reacted to it.

It didn’t seem evil and didn’t really seem to have any intent. It was just there. I was afraid of it but didn’t sense anything negative. It was almost like it was studying something.

The 2nd time I saw it, the time our cat reacted, it was above my husband while he was sleeping. This was the only time I think it could’ve been sleep paralysis because it’s the only time I woke up and saw it. However, when my husband woke up he told me that he dreamed that the cat had opened the door and jumped on the bed, which is what I had seen the cat do. Anyway, it’s not exactly that I was paralyzed at the time so much as I just knew I shouldn’t interfere with it, so I didn’t. Husband was upset when I told him I saw a black mass above him and didn’t attempt to wake him up.

He downloaded a ghost radar app to his phone (I do not necessarily give these any credit!) and it frequently detected things. The only strange part was that when we’d take it other places, it got nothing at all. He’d leave it on for days and take it to work with him. He worked A LOT. Many 12 hour days so it’s not just that he was at home way more often. It never detected anything except when he was at the apartment. So that was kind of strange but I didn’t get the impression that it was a ghost.

Ghosts usually communicate with me in one way or another. This thing kind of didn’t. If I had to guess, I’d say an interdimensional being but I really have no idea if those even exist. I’d believe it was sleep paralysis except the 1st time I saw it, I was walking down the stairs at night and hadn’t gone to bed yet. It wasn’t really even that late. I looked at it and tried to will it away by telling myself it didn’t make sense to see, but it did not disappear like I thought it would if I had been seeing things. It seemed very real. I did not go downstairs because I was too freaked out.

**TLDR; I’ve had 3 similar experiences, all in the same apartment. Never again before or after living there. For one of them, I was awake and had not been to bed yet.**

Its like hallucinations but the more positive you bring in your life can determine what you see I usually go to sleep with a funny show it shows. I don’t see entities anymore. Just inappropriate touching and tingling everywhere.

This reads like fiction. Why does everyone want sleep paralysis so bad?

If you have actually experienced it, you’d know that it isn’t cool at all and you wouldn’t be writing fantasies about it.

I’ve seen those smoke like black shadows you’ve described.
I didn’t know what it was. I wasn’t so lucky.
I’m being affected too much by entities since 2019 or earlier.

I’ve experienced some seriously bizarre supernatural things continuously after. Everything from possession, seeing people shapeshifting in a mental hospital, fake version of some patients walking through the dining area then disappearing.

Whatever was with me liked to show off actually. Like I would go to my room and there was this silly teenaged looking girl with black hair and white dress continuously running across the room and disappearing in the wall ahead of her on loop.

Things aren’t as full blown like it was in 2019, but I’m still dealing with a milder form of possession, having my mind suppressed, them trying influence me however they feel. Lately I’ve been feeling the bed randomly shaking and these entities are afraid of it.

And sadly I don’t have control over my own voice anymore. Like strange personalities would speak instead. Not all of them are bad but being in this situation still is.

I’m grateful if anyone can restore me to a time I wasn’t being f’d up by supernatural beings because I totally miss being able to manifest and have my own space to imagine without intrusive images, emotions, energies, speech from non physical being getting in.

Also, let me add…I left a certain religion I always disagreed with and didn’t like a lot about it, years ago. When this entity first spoke through my own mouth it said something that I would never ever say. It was sarcastic maybe but still fucked up and it was based on some violent religious thing.

It’s been hell. I’m grateful that I wasn’t easy to control to their liking and I had a kind being that stayed to help me because these lower entities are sickos and continue to be offensive/the kind of spirits or whatever that you wouldn’t give a damn if they burned.

One of them (stupid entity) is trying to fucking control me and trying to tell me to get married a man with a religion I disagree with…it’s sick.
