Let me know if this makes sense to you:

Some get it instantly, a day or less, others take literally years to develop. There are commonalities though:

1] Mechanism – the how to

2] Doubt/grounding – it can be hard to believe even if you suspend disbelief, that’s a common struggle that needs to be overcome with experience

3] Intrusive thoughts and thoughtforms – once you open the conduit you’re also allowing all the skeletons in your closit and shadow demons free entry. Each will have to be defeated and you’ll develop techniques to separate these internally generated thoughtforms from the ones you intend to connect to.

4] Beacon effect – you’ve opened a conduit and have confidence in your guides and sources you’ve beaten down your inner demons and done your shadow work but then ~surprise~ *there are others* that you may not be so keen on talking to.

5] The lull – there will be a time when suddenly you lose your ability, it seems you’re all alone again and it can cause anxiety, the issue is, anxiety can close the connection too, so you’ll need to learn that this is a temporary condition that will pass. Sometimes there’s a strong guide that can still come through even if all other sources seem to have disappeared. Very rare migraines can do this too. The body isn’t always in a perfect condition.

6] Confidence – you’ve had enough experience that your resolve is rock solid.

7] Preponderance or evidence – now any explanation for your critical mass of exprerience, other than a metaphysical one, are *less likely*.

    For me:
1 took 20 minutes in, 2 was over by about 7 months, 3 and 4 ended by 9 months, 5 was very mild for me, but it did happen and I did get freeked out, 6 and 7 took over a year though they were growing steadily after 3 months.

Well, I became a medium by accident. It seemed to happen immediately; but I would estimate that it took a month to get “really good.” But, I am stuck somewhere between 3 and 4 on your scale. All my intrusive thoughts *are* from external sources, though, and always have been. I would like to figure out how to shut it off!

My psychic abilities were there as a very young child and went away when I was six due to trauma , my guides came back to me at age 34 18months ago, both times an instant connection

I think I’m just coming out of anxiety/migraine phase and beginning more confident again and finding my way. I’d say that my experience hasn’t exactly been linear though, mediumship takes a backseat when my life becomes chaotic and anxiety ridden, which has happened a few times. But I’m getting better in my tarot readings and am getting positive confirmations more often which really helps my confidence.

For me, it is a complicated, scary, confusing thing with moments of incredible joy at connecting and something really helping people heal in a way that is magical and unbelievable, yet totally real and deeply, soulfully felt. But, like the stages of grief, none are ever really forever gone just through the experience of them. they come up in waves and throughout all seasons and all the years. Repeating both in joy and terror. That’s really what it feels like for me.

I enjoyed your topic and the relevance!

I believe I am on 2. I have come to terms with my newfound ability but I have so much doubt in who I am speaking with due to a recent spirit I encountered. Most of my adult life I have been struggling with my self doubt. This is has led to a block in my spiritual and life journey. Any tips on how to overcome this?

No idea if I’m omniscient I’m new here but think I’m past the migraine phase and constantly have dreams of stuff that might happen even to the point of DRIVING MY DADS CAR AND HAVING NO EXPERIENCE its freaky. It’s easier to accept it and listen I would be around 4
