I've never posted on Reddit before, typically just lurk behind the scenes so apologies if this isn't the right place for this story, but I really wanted to share it somewhere.
To set the scene, I live l in a city in United Kingdom with a population of about 500k. Not a huge city, but not tiny either (relevancy of this will become apparent). I had just left my parents and was heading back home to my flat in the city centre. As I was walking home, I thought I recognised a guy I used to work with (let's call him Chris). Anyway, Chris and I worked together about 6 years back and. I haven't seen him for probably 4 years, so I creepily sped up to see if it was him, it wasn't. It turned out to be a random Spanish guy!
So far so normal, right? Well this is where it gets a bit weird. As I continued to walk home, I couldn't stop thinking about him, wondering how things are going for him and what he was up to these days. It was playing on my mind for sure. I should also add, I have about 10 different ways I could walk back to my flat and chose one way at random. I walked past a local restaurant that always has a big queue outside (very few restaurants are like that in Liverpool so I always notice). Just as I was getting to the end of the queue I heard someone say my name. As I look up you can imagine my absolute surprise when he (Chris) is the one saying my name and standing there right in front of me. What the Fu**.
As you can imagine, this completely caught me off guard and I could just about hide my surprise at our encounter. It was really nice to see him and we spoke for about 15 minutes. I decided not share the events that lead up to the encounter as I thought it would probably sound really weird/creepy.
I don't really have a point to this story other than not being able to stop thinking about the encounter and being unable to fathom the chances of it happening. I haven't seen the guy in 4 years, don't follow him on any social media so didn't even know whether he still lived in the same city.
It's now got me thinking these type of encounters/situations have a habit of happening to me and it's definitely freaked me out a little. I'm a really logical person most of but this one just seems to defy logic.
Do any of you guys have similar stories and how to rationalise/explain it?
