GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmIt’s why the deck I use to do readings for people has that card portrayed as a bad decision that the people portrayed can reverse at any moment. (A Monkey Trap, to be exact.) That way, no images that are problematic in that regard, and people can more easily understand the idea behind it.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmBonus points if the tarot cards are a fallen angel theme.
My super Catholic grandmother, who has long since passed, discovered my cards one day while I was in college. I usually carry my deck with me in my purse. She pulled them out and smiled wide, she told me she had been waiting for God and the holy spirit to talk through me and it had finally happened. She explained cultural understanding from her family and my grandfather’s family that the cards were a way for the saints and holy spirit to contact us in a simple non threatening fashion. My family roots are from Mexico, while some of the family have been in Texas since before it was a state.
So while I feared her anger, I was honest about the practice for me and she said, “nope, god loves you and wants you to help others.”
It doesn’t matter that I’m not a practicing catholic, but she believed this to her dying day that the holy spirit talked through those cards.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmI was trying to explain this to my heavily Christian S/O, and did her first reading.
I be damned if Death wasn’t the first card I drew.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmOver the course of years, I gradually lost something like three cards from my favorite and most used oracle deck.
It was still a great deck, and I used it as it was. I figured the missing cards were gone for a reason, and would eventually turn up.
Years later, I gave up on that thought and decided to just purchase a spare of the deck and replace the missing cards.
I opened my new purchase and pulled the missing cards to put in with my old deck.
All of the original missing cards were in the old deck, like they had never been gone.
Now I have two complete decks, and much affectionate side eye for the original.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmWhen I was learning the Tarot, I roped my husband (who gamely tolerates/enjoys my witchiness, but is a *firm* atheist) into a simple reading.
He pulled The Devil.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmI love tarot and this might sound weird, but I stopped using my deck a few months ago now. Because we really didn’t get along at all lmfao…

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmlmaooooo my deck would do this too. I always warn people that my deck is kind of a bitch—but what can I say, that’s why we get along 😂
Twist: her roommate was a capricorn and the cards were just trying to say hello to her very specifically

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmI have a crystal oracle deck that I use that’s a spitter. Every time I shuffle, it spits out cards. Can range from 1-4 but they are ALWAYS on point. It’s extremely rare that I actually get to do a proper spread with that deck because it has a mind of its own.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmI had to deal with finding a body at work the other day.(long story, but it had been violent.)
My sister does a tarot reading to “solve the mystery” of what happened, and the first card she pulled was the Hanged Man. Very appropriate for what she was looking to learn.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmI have a cutesy kawaii deck that’s very comfortable for people with religious apprehensions.
I’m also a science witch, so I say that there’s nothing inherently magical about my deck, and the magic happens in their own brain as they put their own thoughts and ideas together about how their pulled cards relate to their own lives; that this will be mostly about helping promote self-reflection.

GuestFebruary 16, 2023 at 9:21 pmOmg my deck is such a troll most of the time. One time we did a reading for my sister’s wife, drew the emperor card. She was like whatever, they’re just cards let me draw one. So I shuffled and she drew the emperor card again LMAO so on point.
It was also incredibly snarky when I was planning my wedding. Every single reading had a phallic card or The Lovers. I was like OMG we know! Haha love some Tarot trolling.
