Tarot just reflecting (good and bad) mood back

I’ve been reading from a Rider Waite deck for some 15 years now and I’m wondering if I need to come up with a new way of reading, or if I should get a new deck. It often seems to me that the deck will just reflect my mood back. Not necessarily a bad mood, but good too. If I smile and focus on the good, I get good cards. Which is nice and all, but they don’t accurately answer my questions.

So now I’m doubting all my readings because, well, I’m always in some mood, I’m not exactly zen buddhist, haha! Does anyone else feel like this, what do you do?

If the deck often just reflects your mood back to you, then you are having difficulty interpreting the cards objectively. Each card has an objective aspect, which is mostly same for everyone, and a subjective aspect, which depends on the reader’s understanding of the situation and the surrounding cards.

It sounds like you need practice interpreting the cards objectively. Books are helpful for this.

The observer will always color the reading. There is no way to approach it in a neutral fashion. Do the readings not seem useful?
