To add: some will try anything and everything to bend the rules in their favour.

Used to be a cashier, got a young man and woman trying to buy alcohol. According to the law, I needed to check their IDs to make sure they were of legal age to buy it, but the young lady didn’t have hers with her, so I couldn’t legally sell them the booze. So she then left, and her boyfriend (very smugly) said that since *he* was now my customer, and he *did* have his ID with him *and* was old enough, there was no problem with me selling the alcohol to him. I knew his girlfriend was waiting in the parking lot, but, as he so *helpfully* pointed out, I couldn’t prove that, so why was I denying him service?

It ended with my supervisor coming over and ordering the guy to leave because he wouldn’t stop arguing with me.

Was working in food retail in 2020 when covid first hit. We were selling milk products, yoghurts etc. A customer came in, grabbed stuff and came to my cashier to pay. They asked me if we are gonna close to which I replied “I don’t know. We are waiting for the goverment to make the regulations public”. They replied “Don’t close! Where from am I going to buy my yoghurt??”

So you want us, to risk our lives with covid no matter what because you want yoghurt. While you wfh (I know that because they shared that info happily). Are you dumb or what?

But I didn’t answer that, i just raised my eyebrows, scanned the stuff and let them go. Wish I could answer really.

One wrong word and you’re cleaning some large cavernous structure (either some fae lords castle or the storage) for the rest of your days.

And of course, when all else fails, hit them over the head with something made of iron.

I’m a total simp for service workers. I feel guilty for even bothering you so I am completely fine with bad customer service. I’ll even let you take it out on me – I do ask that you try keep it verbal, however 😀

I work in film, and this is eerily similar to my personal rule set with actors.

The eye contact thing is often easy when like me you are on the spectrum.

Also one of my first jobs was at a Leslie Pool store, and to do the free water testing (that would result in them buying at least 100 dollars in chemicals most of the time) you’d have to give your address because we stored your information about the pool and because of that, there was onetime where I accidentally revealed my home address to a whole group of people.

The dude gave me his address only heard the number and the street not the town and the street name and number were the exact same as mine,

    The exchange went

    Me “You can’t live there.”

    Them “Its where I live.”

    Me “But I live there.”

    Him “gives address again.”

Me, “Oh I live in this town at that street name and address, I didn’t realize there was a street in the next town with the same name.”

which was how the 3 customers in the store found out my home address.

    Thankfully nothing bad happened

    They forgot:

None of them really know how human things work.

I worked at a pet store, no live animals just stuff for them. We were kinda like the whole foods of petco in a way, an independent chain. The amount of people who came in with a puppy or a snake and asked if they need water was absurd. Harnesses were beyond their comprehension, food is an arcane mystery.
