Can I, as an absolute beginner, use two tarot decks?

I want to use one deck for learning/my personal readings and the other deck for my altar, as sort of a weekly pull. So I’d pull one card a week and that’s the energy to take with me. I’d use my main deck, but I don’t want any cards to be missing when I do my readings.

Sure, why not! My husband had 2 decks from the very beginning of his journey, I believe. It never caused any issues.

The only potential reason I can think of not to have two decks as a beginner is if they don’t have similar sets of imagery, you’ll be learning to find meaning in two sets of images at once. It might also be a good opportunity to learn about different ways of expressing similar ideas, but it’s up to you how much you want to take on.

As others have said, why not? Tarot folk often have different decks for different purposes. Try it out, do what works for you. I have at least one Tarot deck for daily use/daily draws, and an oracle deck for the card of the week (a theme for me to focus on, ponder). If the issue is using the same deck, you could always get a second copy/back up. I have back up copies of some of my favorites. Good luck. Paz y amor.

Let’s flip the question: If you want two decks, why not use two decks?

You can use as many as you want. I think making sure they have similar imagery or at least similar meanings to each other would be helpful, but if you know your decks then it shouldn’t matter.

Of course! I focused on two when I started as well. I just choose whichever one I feel most drawn to at that moment.

……. why wouldn’t you be able to?

Questions like these make no sense. Even people in the tarot community are freaked out about breaking a rule or something…

Use a million decks if you want. Use one single deck until you die.

Y’all need to stop worrying about the nonsensical stuff and start putting that energy into learning what the cards mean. Start forming a relationship to tarot and stop wasting time thinking about how many decks you need to use.

Yes, absolultely. Everyone does tarot their own way, and I think most people who are into tarot end up having many decks with different vibes and different uses.
