that could also be perfect visiting to mourn.

and taxi drivers giving free rides tp people who couldn’t afford it.

Oh that almost made me cry. What a respectful ritual that recognizes and honors the trauma and grief everyone in the area had been going through.

In Mexico, we had similar problems around day of the dead. The taxis in our area wrote it off as family coming home and no big deal.

As a New Orleanian, It’s almost impossible to hail a cab in New Orleans period unless you’re in the Quarter. You either use Uber/Lyft or call United. There are some places they won’t let you out at, but that’s because they don’t want to get shot.

Y’all have any idea how exhausting it is to be corporeal? Just because your ghost dozed off and veiled doesn’t mean they’re not still napping in the back seat.

I’ll bet a brick of fresh ginger that the NOLA drivers who didn’t drop off their fares are having a big uptick of weird shit happening in their cars.

Poor ghost back there messing with the windows and the wiring going “HEY! WHAT DO I HAVE TO GET YOUR ATTENTION!?”

I saw a documentary about that area in Japan. There’s a telephone booth that is not connected to the system where you can go and talk to the loved ones you lost.

    * Ghosts are real, and even without bodies deserve respect.

Yeah, this tracks. Don’t get me wrong, we can be terribly hospitable, but also terribly ornery.

As someone from New Orleans, the traffic isn’t worth it. We gotta deal with drunk tourists every day, and we got a ton of ghosts already, we can’t give all of them free rides!

It’s funny how seemingly small differences collectivism and individualism make in societies.

I love the Shinto-adjacent sensibility. “Everything has a spirit, the spirits of all things deserve respect… and sometimes they got places to go.”

As someone who has been a New Orleans taxi I can promise the biggest issue isn’t ghost passengers trying to get in with a to go cup they plan to spill everywhere on every single ride.
