About to get my first tarot deck and I was doing some research and was wondering what are some great ways of cleansing my new deck ????

Now, I’m going to recommend something a little different; Don’t cleanse them. What’s the worst that will happen? You get a few bad readings and cleanse them anyway. But I firmly believe that “breaking the seal” on a new deck is equivalent to when a doctor pulls fresh tools out of the sterilized packaging. Something about opening the packaging is a powerful ritual that many take for granted. Sit with that energy! Some of the most powerful readings I’ve done are on “fresh” decks.

If you have it, set Amethyst or clear quartz on it over night. Burning incense works too. You can also set intention to cleanse it under the moon and put it outside or on a windowsill, whichever works best for you!

You should either follow the practices of your chosen spiritual path, or choose methods which are personally meaningful to you. Someone could tell you to use sage and a crystal but that would have no more effect than using some herbs you grew yourself or wrapping the deck in your favourite blanket, for example. These things, if you believe in them, should come from a deeply meaningful and resonant place, not just something a stranger on the internet tells you to do.

Most decks I don’t clean. I just ask it a question and then go from there. Recently, I like to set intentions with the deck and clean it with sound.

What I like to do is to straight up shuffle them and then put them back in order. Now the order I prefer the cards to be in isn’t exactly the same order they are “meant” to be in. But that helps them have my energy.
