If the ascendant is squared by its ruling planet (ex libra rising squares venus or sag rising squares jupiter) will it cause the ascendant to not be expressed or to be hidden? What will happen?

I haven’t found information on this so I am asking here.

    Thanks.

The ascendant is the most forward facing aspect of a person’s chart, it can never really be “hidden.” Squares simply represent challenges. A person with ascendant square ruler might feel misunderstood. The way they are perceived might not be the way they view themselves. This will also depend on how tight the square is, an exact square would mean that the ruling planet is conjunct either the MC or the IC. You can look up those conjunctions for more information. Although squares can be difficult, they’re not impossible to overcome. The native can work to accept both parts of themselves.

This is probably going to be controversial, but I don’t put a lot of emphasis on the chart ruler. It can give me information about someone, and I feel that it sets the overarching theme to a chart. But it’s not always the most important part of someone’s identity.

Well, the according to Whole-Sign houses and Sign-based aspects, the 10th and the 4th house do have a square-aspect with the ascendant. In the case of the 10th house, it is the superior square. And in the case of the 4th house, it is the inferior square. It is easier to consider these things by comparing how 10th house and 4th house topics interact with the 1st house.

For instance, we know that careers or positions in society (10th house themes) might have a hard influence on an individual, which may be difficult. Like say, working sacrificing one’s conform zone and selfish concerns (1st house themes) to work as a governor for a new regime. That can be an example of 10th house squaring the 1st.

Add planets in their, and you’ll have planets involved in that square, even though said planet is the ruler of the Ascendant. A theoretical example, you may have Capricorn rising with Saturn in Libra in the 10th, this person might be driven by Saturnian qualities such as structure, patience and control, but that he may find a profession, which may have an uncomfortable impact on him as an individual. When I say uncomfortable I don’t necessarily mean anything “bad”. Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zones. And in such an example, perhaps this person needs to be more harmonious and cooperative.

It’s not the worst to be honest. People who have no aspects to their ascendant to the ruling planet can often feel adrift and lost in life – not really know what they’re here for.

The worst places for the chart ruler to be are the 12th/6th and 2nd/8th because the ascendant doesn’t “see” those planets. It’s also the reason why those houses are considered challenging.

Having your chart ruler square your ascendant could mean that you know who you are but being yourself may come with problems you have to solve. If you had it in, say, the 2nd then you’d probably have a harder time identifying what’s holding you back in life or you may not understand what the problem is at all – you’d only know you aren’t where you want to be in life.

When the [ruling planet](https://www.mpanchang.com/planets/ephemeris/) squares the ascendant in an astrological chart, it can create tension and challenges in the individual’s self-expression and personality. The ascendant represents the person’s outward demeanor and how they interact with the world. The square aspect, which is an angle of 90 degrees, signifies a clash between the energies of the ruling planet and the ascendant. This may result in internal conflicts, difficulties in asserting oneself, and a sense of frustration in expressing one’s true nature. However, with awareness and self-reflection, these aspects can be harnessed to bring growth and transformation to the individual’s personality.
