I’ve gotten into charm casting, and it’s honestly one of my favorite divination methods. I notice that not a lot of witches know about charm casting, so I decided to make a post on how to build your charm casting kit.
\#1: What is charm casting? Charm casting is a form of divination where the caster has a collection of items, usually fairly small, that are then cast onto a flat surface, often a casting cloth with symbols or shapes on it. It is also called a magpie oracle, and some similar practices are button casting, coin casting, or bone casting.
\#2: How do you start? You begin your charm casting journey by collecting your charms! I like to cast mine onto a table using a small clay bowl, so I tend to stick with smaller items that will be easy to cast. I also recommend trying to chose less delicate pieces, so that when you do cast them, they don’t break on other pieces or chip when they hit the hard surface. These items can really be anything, as long as they are small and have a meaning you can assign to them. Some examples of charms I have are: a wooden bead, a coin, a marble, a tiny clay doll, an acorn, a small piece of wood, a deer tooth. Assign a meaning to each item, then get started casting.
\#3: How do you cast? Casting charms is extremely easy! If you’ve ever cast runes before, you should have some idea of how it works, but if you haven’t, here’s how it works. You take your charms gently in your hands, or bowl, or bag, and you gently toss them onto the surface you’re casting on. I always have a round piece of string where I’m casting, and I know that whatever lands inside the circle is relevant. Where the item lands, what it lands beside, how it lands or interacts with the other pieces when cast is all relevant in different ways unique to each person and each reading, so I can’t tell you how to read that, but I can tell you to keep an eye out for it. I have a journal that I log everything in, so I write a whole page for each reading in order to find out what I’m being told. Sometimes you have to sleep on it, sometimes it comes to you immediately, either way, the message will probably come to you.
\#4: Cautionary. This is just a warning for those new to divination, if you are experienced, feel free to skip. Always cleanse before and after a reading, this can be done with a wand, crystals, mist, sound, energy manipulation, or smoke. Make sure that you take every message with a grain of salt. Do not use divination to diagnose an illness. Finally, don’t take it very seriously. In the beginning, spend your time getting a feel for the method, have a bit of fun, explore. Don’t worry too much about whether or not you’re doing it right.
Thank you for reading the whole post, it’s a little long, but I still have a ton more to say, so comment if you have any questions and I’ll see if I can help! Have some fun casting, I hope you love charm casting as much as I do, Peace and Blessings!
