I’m no expert but I have been moderately into astrology for a while now. The only problem is whenever I try to learn more I’m repeatedly met with potential myths and rumors.

So? Cusps, ruling planets, eros placements, new dates, I could continue listing forever. How much of that is fact and how much is fiction? What else are some common misconceptions? I don’t know what’s reliable anymore. Thank you in advance <3

    Sun sign compatibility

    Cusps

The heteronomative language that is unfortunately very common

The idea that any placements/aspect etc are inherently red flags

For me it’s horoscopes. If I do read them, I combine my big three but they’re always bs. Then because of that, my second biggest peeve is people not believing astrology because of the horoscope aspect

Well let’s see there’s an extreme divide regarding the Sun’s importance and I don’t think that’s going away any time soon. There’s the crowd where all they know is the Sun either because they are beginners and don’t know or don’t care to know anything deeper. Then you have the other crowd where the Sun is dismissed and ignored to the opposite extreme. Crazy it sounds it was once forbidden to even speak of the Sun in this sub. The truth is something like, “The Sun is indeed significant although it is not everything.”

Imo, asteroids. The sun is the biggest predictor of personality than anything else, it’s the ego drive. So all of its aspects, houses position, etc are extremely important. Over the last 15 years or so, that’s fallen out of favor, been scoffed at as “old thinking” while things like teeny tiny asteroids are being taken as fact. This to me, is a head scratcher.
I think the ancients had a knowledge base that we’ve forgotten or are no longer privy to, and they deserve respect for their teachings… just my 0.02 🙂

Adding a new astral body found by nasa to everyone’s chart and think it justify whatever comes in mind of the “astrologer” and usually giving a spiritual meaning that you can’t say it’s wrong because there’s no proof against it at the same time there’s no proof of the alleged meaning.

Modern astrology overall is full of BS.

I have a couple examples, I’ve seen twin flames commented already that one’s classic, the “omg this person’s your soulmate” you can have many soulmates and they don’t have to be romantic, the zodiac stereotypes make my head throb for example not all Leo’s are egotistical, also not to mention zodiac matches don’t exist. That’s because you are made up of many signs based on you natal chart and based on your natal chart will tell you more about yourself and others but even if you have exact natal charts you can be two completely different people based on the maturity of you signs and experiences in life. The fact is if you love someone then you love them and that’s what matters, it’s not “written in the stars” and if it wasn’t meant to be then it wasnt but don’t beat yourself up about it. The best thing to do is to mature yourself, sometimes the people around you do teach you how to mature but they don’t always need to and that’s the best advise I can give.

100% agree with twin flame BS. I was stuck in an unrequited love situation for over three years thinking that guy is my twin flame. Lesson learned.

The real BS is when people use astrology as an excuse for their or others’ past behaviour, or are overdependent on astrology forecasts. I have been guilty of it too, and don’t get me wrong, I love astrology – to me, it adds a really interesting, archetypal dimenstion through which I can explore myself (via natal chart) and feel connected with something greater.

But people forget that astrology is not set in stone, it’s an art that is very, very open to interpretation, and therein lies the magic. Then again, many people forget that each and every aspect and placement can be looked at from a thousand different angles (especially, concerning the fact how the specific sign/ placement/aspect manifests in real life). It’s sad to see how people dismiss what could have been their gifts and strenghts, because they have “too many squares” or they have “malefic planets”, or they’re simply Pisces. A wise astrologer will be wary of explaining something as inherently bad or good, but with people (esp. layman astrology enthusiasts like me) it’s not that simple. And to be honest, people see what they want to see – in their birth charts, synastries, transit charts etc. For example, I was once in a very abusive co-dependent relationship with a manipulative narcissist for two years, I couldn’t get out. It shocks me even to this day how back then I simply chose to dismiss all the signs of our incompatibility in our synastry report (it was a wreck, even astrology-wise), but I focused only on the aspects that were “good”. I was young, unwise, and very sad, I couldn’t stand up for myself and take responsibility for my life. So using astrology as a crutch was very convenient – I blamed transit Pluto and Uranus for quarrels between me and my abusive ex (even if they happened every day nevertheless), I wrote off our miscommunication to it being Mercury Retrograde, and so on. And while I still believe these planetary synchronicities (from a very Jungian point of view) may have exacerbated our problems, I should have just sought professional help in therapy and get myself out of there.

Also, picking an astrologically “perfect” wedding day is pretty much bullshit (I don’t want to offend anyone, just IMHO). If your relationship has strong foundations, and you’re both mature enough to work on your conflict resolution, then nothing – not Venus Retrograde, not Mars square Pluto, nothing could shake up that foundation (and also – as in the day of your wedding sets the tone of your relationship; what about the first day you met then?!). Also, not even the sweetest Moon-Venus in 7th house combo or whatever could save a toxic relationship from being toxic.

So TL;DR what I wish more people into astrology knew – sometimes, Sharon, the fault is not in the stars, it’s you. And in the end of the day, only you have full responsibility over your life.
