This Reddit is for and about mediums but I do not see anywhere what is exactly defined by medium. I am curious as to what people mean when they refer to themselves as mediums. I consider mediumship as defined by one who connects with a specific soul at a specific time frame. And this contact is done consciously and with intent.
I am psychic, I connect with the other world through vey specific methods, dreams, visions, etc. But never try to contact with someone specifically.
I am curious how a medium would describe what they do, how they do it, and is it a conscious act and would love to initiate a discussion./r/mediums

Everyone has their own ideas but Wikipedia has a pretty good standard description of mediumship.

What is it to be a medium?
I personally don’t know what I am. I’m a channeler, I’m a healer, I’m a dream walker, I’m everything, I am nothing.
Mostly I’m an psychic empath, it’s been afflicting mostly. I’ve had very dark and scary times, thoughts, traumas and vicarious traumas, I’m sensitive to media and the world. I’ve found my own personal batch of empowerment only because I was tired of being manipulated by everything and everyone. I hate how open I can be. I also can’t imagine myself any other way. The extra senses are like extra limbs. They are a part of me.
What is it to be also a medium? Sometimes like an antenna without clearly being able to identify the off switch, sometimes being a feeding source for thieves of joy because boundaries are hard at times and so is having the personal empowerment and self love to make them. Sometimes being an odd comfort for others mostly. Sometime being a target for exploitation. For myself though? Its the ability to live deeply, feel deeply, know deeply and beyond expression. To connect to source and heal at many different levels I will never fully understand. Sometimes not being healing at all but struggling past manifested pitfalls of grandiose imagination. I do not envy the official mediums. To be clear enough everyday and discipline enough to be professional and not embellishing is truly astounding.

I know others answered what a medium is. But in my opinion, and in simple terms. A medium could be seen as a medium on which spirits can talk to the living. This isn’t the full definition but this is the way I define one. And get the play of words? ???? Hope this helped lol ????????

For me mediumship is like a flash of lightning in pitch blackness. I see people or pictures that are clearly illuminated for a brief moment and then fade away. I don’t know of any other way to describe it. I see it, and then I don’t, but for that second its a real and tangible as anything in this world.

I soooo relate. Supposedly, when I was grossing about how hard everything can be and basically internally screaming why me, the medium that I was supposed to help said, your angel just said you agreed to do this before you were born. I have trouble sometimes with believing in myself, and thinking I am interpreting the signs correctly, or just my ego thinking I can do something. I had a feeling for ages that I had to go to this medium to do a post life regression. So I finally got a appointment, walked into her office and smashed into an energy wall, dropped to my knees, and when she asked if I was alright, I felt a hand clamp around my voicebox, cutting off my ability to talk. That was the sign I had something to tell her. Once my voice came back, she asked me why I was there, , I told her why, then she said no, you are here to help me. My response was” you mean I have been tricked by my angels? That is when I asked why me.
Turns out there is a vortex on her yard and someone phoned her up in panic that she should do something to do.
Sometimes after a job I feel like my energy is gone, trying to incorporate into my psyche what has just happened. I would hate to be a professional medium, we sometimes make mistakes because it is hard to interpret something. I have been harassed by religious zealots who feel I deal with the devil and when I mentioned I have 4 guardians he called them demons and tried to banish them. The had said not to tell him about them so I never now disregard their advice.
