queenannechickMemberWe have woodpecker that calls mates by banging on chimney flashing every Spring. He came by for the first time this morning before I’d finished my first cup of coffee. I, once again, will be practicing my aim throwing small pine cones at/near him to encourage him to find another chimney.
He is a somewhat unwelcome harbinger but yay Spring!

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:48 pmThe rain washed away the worst of the iced over snow, and then there were bright red cardinals picking through the grass outside my window! I can’t wait for spring!

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:48 pmNothing yet. Recent got a foot of snow so everything is buried. It might get above freezing for the first time in a week soon though! I do like how the sun goes down a little later. But we still have a ways to go.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:48 pmI saw my first robin during an ice storm on Friday! There he was in an ice-glazed tree with all the starlings. It was something you don’t see every day. Last year I didn’t see a robin until March.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:48 pmmaine’s constant winter cloudiness subsiding for a bit to reveal a crescent moon last night. Really hoping we get more clear nights like that soon. For anyone not from the northeast US, winter ends up being really cloudy in Maine most of the time due to how erratic our weather is. Had 2 days back to back about a month ago where it went from mid 50s and sun to 18 degrees F and cloudy. Then the next week we were back to 40s. Maine is whack.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:48 pmThe rooks are nesting. Huge flocks fill the sky as they start building nests in large groups high up in the trees. It’s such a awe inspiring sight to see so many
