I actually do shamanic journeying so I thought I’d share some experience from the perspective of the person doing the work! I’ve primarily only journeyed for myself (for about 3 years) until very recently. A few months ago, though, I began offering to journey on divination questions for friends. It’s been really fascinating to see what comes up!

With journeying, things kind of unfold like a story and the story is full of symbols that you untangle to answer a question. The symbols aren’t generally something you’d be able to interpret in a standard way but are specific to the person doing the journeying. I’ve come to discover, though, that the symbols I get when journeying for other people can also be very exclusive to them! Like in one journey, I had two Disney songs come up and it turned out they were important to my friend in a way that they wouldn’t have been for me.

The outcomes of the journeys have tended to lead to more questions (this is true for my own, too). Some of my friends even got journeying “homework” that spirit wanted them to do (both were already people who also do shamanic journeying so they knew how to do this). I have a similar experience with my own journeys, too. Often, I get clarity on the question I’m asking, but that also leads to new questions and avenues to explore. Sometimes, too, the answer to my question isn’t apparent until a long time after the original journey. Like something will happen in real life and suddenly a symbol I didn’t understand before will just click into place. Occasionally, too, spirit will just handle something directly. Early on, for example, I did a generic sort of healing journey (didn’t ask for anything specific it was just part of my practice) and ended up have chronic headaches disappear for months. So there are really a lot of ways things can unfold!
