I’ve read contradicting claims about this. Some say it’s the 2nd house, because it’s a resource. Some say 4th, because it’s associated with home life and nurturing. Some say it’s 5th house because it can be a fun and creative activity. Some say 6th, because it’s part of the daily routine.

It feels like you could find an argument for every house. Or does it depend on the individual’s relationship with food? Like it’s 6th for someone who counts calories and nutrition, 5th for an amateur food lover, and 10th for a food critic?

    What’s your opinion?

There are definitely arguments for several. The 5th House could indicate where we overindulge on the foods we love, the 6th is associated with food reserves, grains, the food that requires routine preparation and tending, I know the 2nd has been linked to food because, as you stated, it is a resource. I think if the moon is placed in any of these houses it may better indicate a connection to food, because of the moon’s relationship to sustenance, cycles, and nourishment, even during gestation.

the beautiful part is that i think all of them are correct. each house covers different aspects of something as all encompassing as “food”. (note: the houses will signify activities related to food, the food itself would probably be signified by a planet. each planet has an associated flavor and taste, as well as just the enjoyability of it)

id say if you held me at gunpoint, i’d choose the 2nd house because it’s having food as nourishment and a requirement for living, which is like the most basic use of food.

The 2nd House is the mouth and throat, and thus the things you put in it. The food as a movable commodity you own would fit, too.

I don’t think it’s the person’s relationship with food, rather how they are using or interacting with the food that would change the House.

If someone cooked as a hobby, for example, the hobby of cooking would be H5. The food, when eaten, would probably revert to House 2. If they were a chef, the act of cooking would be House 10 and so on.

So I don’t have anything in my 2nd or 4th house, what does that say?

This 4th house Venus in cancer who has always loved to cook and eat says 4th.

Feeding is 4th. 6th is diet and farming / wheat. I would think 5th is decadent foods.

The 2nd house, as an overall commodity. Taurus is the gourmand of the zodiac; all fertile fields and the joy of indulgence. I think the other houses mentioned show an aspect of food preparation and enjoyment.

Taurus governs the mouth, teeth, lips, voice, and throat area of the body, so food as a resource relates to Taurus which is the second house. Preparing food together in the home = 4th house. Enjoying the meal collectively = 5th house. Digesting the food = 6th house. The food moving into lower intestines = 7th house. Defecation of the food = 8th house which is Scorpio, the area where we get rid of the food. The food itself, though, is 2nd house, as is agriculture, and personal food storage and collections.

I’d say it is an argument per house, and also dependent on how the person sees food – your example of the 6th in terms of calorie counting and nutrition is a good example.

Couldn’t the first house/ascendant and its ruler be indications of food/taste, because it is the house of the appearance/body of the native? Our bodies are made of food, so it makes sense to me, but I don’t know if it’s the traditional indicator.
