I‘m curious, for those practicing witches among you. How do you know which witches tradition you belong to? Which magick you can safely work with and stuff like that.

For example, I know not to trifle with Carribean witchcrafts, those are t my ancestors and aren’t spirits that I have any right to work with.

I know my ancestry is British Isles and likely Scandinavia further back but any specific lineage or ties to anything spiritual is lost.

I know magick isn’t just something to be toyed with, even for people who don’t believe it or take it seriously it should be respected.

So I just wonder how you find your ties?

Your craft is not determined by blood ancestry, it’s determined by the amount of knowledge and respect you bring to the table.

You do your mundane research, find good sources of info, and see what sparks your intuition. Then you follow that path, carefully and respectfully, and see where it goes.

Your craft is what you research and what calls to you. Many of us are not lucky enough to be taught by our families, so we find our own way. While my blood is from the British Isles, I don’t feel a connection to Wicca. I live in the Southern USA, so I have a lot of exposure to Appalachian folk traditions, Hoodoo, and conjure. All of those click with me and I’ve had great success working with them.

But I read everything I can get my hands on. Even if I don’t practice it, I try my best to expand my magical knowledge in every direction. You never know what you’re going to run into in the world, and I like to be prepared.

I am norse decent but 5th generation Aussie and here is my home, the Northern Territory. I’m lucky enough that I have been friended by an ‘elder’ woman from this area. Means I just gained a family of about 64 people and it’s growing. I learn from her about plants. I’m finding my own style of witchcraft. Old and new, north and south, winter and summer. I walk in the Australian bush and observe the land formations near me. Its centuries old, and you can feel the dreaming. I would never take and abuse. I’m grateful to learn and to add knowledge of the plants around me in my craft. Personal use only. Plus there are some great books on Aussie bush medicine available but finding them yourself and using is wonderful. I don’t think I could ever just be a ‘norse’ witch. It’s so long ago that the ties have been broken for way too long. My ancestors came to Australia to escape family, prosecution, poverty, for adventure and by convict ship. I believe the way I am moving forward is a good combination. Guess I’m a green Witch. Blessings to all.

I don’t mess with hexes much and I avoid love spells or demon callings, but that’s it
